WHEN THE MORNING COMES

PhotobucketWhen the Morning Comes is the 2nd one in the Sisters of the Quilt series by Cindy Woodsmall. I already gave a lengthy explanation as to how I ended up reading this series out of order so I won’t repeat that info here. But, I will say again that I think I would have appreciated the depth of the trials the main character, Hannah Lapp, went through if I had read the books in the proper order.

This book begins with Hannah leaving her Old Order Amish community in disgrace because of an event that happened one fateful night (in the first book). She is traveling by train to look for her dad’s sister – someone Hannah has never met and who was never spoken about. She endures many hardships before finding and settling in with her aunt Zabeth who helps her adjust to life as an Englischer. She gently nudges her to get her GED and go on to nursing school, learn to drive, carry a cell phone, and many other things which are difficult for Hannah to accept or do given her Old Order Amish upbringing.

Meanwhile, back home in the Old Order Amish community, friends and family are wondering where Hannah is, if she’s safe, and when, if ever, she’ll return home. Her fiance, Paul, didn’t think it would be more than a few months before she returned, but after nearly two years he has almost given up hope of her returning and he isn’t able to go after her since she hasn’t left any information that would lead him to her.

When Zabeth passes away, Hannah asks one of her doctor friends to send a letter to her dad letting him know his sister has passed away. Her dad gives the letter to Paul asking him to find Hannah in the hopes she would come home to help her sister through some difficult mental problems which arose after Hannah left home. Does he find her? Does she recognize him?

Again, I don’t want to give away too many details. I’ll leave you with this question from the back cover: Will the countless opportunities in her new life persuade Hannah that her place is amongst the Englischers or will she give in to her heart’s call to return home and face her past?

I have thoroughly enjoyed the last two books in this series and am looking forward to reading the first one when I pick it up from the library next week.

Lisa,
Sorry. There’s no give away for this book only the other book and you’re definitely in the drawing for that one. I read this book from the library….
