WEEKEND RECAP

We had a nice slow weekend!! It’s nice to have one of those once in awhile. We managed to finish most of our school work even with a stressful day on Tuesday when we didn’t get as much done as we should have since we were all recuperating from Nathan being lost.

Friday night Emily babysat for some friends of ours (our worship leader and his wife). She stayed the night there so they wouldn’t have to worry about being home at any certain time and so no one had to be out driving on the roads late on a Friday night. That always works out great for us and hopefully it’s not too inconvenient for them.

I asked our friends if we could PLEASE take their daughters for the day on Saturday since they were both busy with church events and we had the weekend “off.” For those new to my blog – dh and I play on the weekend worship team at our church. We play two weekends on and two weekends off. Anyway. The girls’ mommy was hosting a fondue for all of the pastors’ wives that night and their daddy was finishing up a movie for this weekend’s service. We were SO excited when they let us take the girls for the day.

After I picked up Emily and the “little girls” as compared to my “big girls” (LOL), we went to visit Amanda at her house. She also LOVES these girls and wanted to spend time with them and us as well. Here is Emily with the girls at Amanda’s house. You can see they didn’t stray too far from her. Amanda used to babysit them quite a bit before she started working so much a few years ago and then Emily started babysitting for them. They call Emily El/a/me.

Amanda finished getting ready and then met us at Hobby Lobby. We were there for about 2 hours. Then, we went for lunch which took FOREVER. You would think the Christmas rush had already started with all the cars and people out and about on Saturday.

After lunch we headed home because Nathan was anxious to play with the girls for awhile and the oldest little girl kept asking when she would get to see Nathan. We WORE the girls out with all of the shopping and visiting in town. They both fell asleep on the way home. Aren’t they CUTE? I think I could get used to having a couple of extra little ones around and car seats to fill our car.

When we got home Emily took them upstairs and laid them down so they could finish their naps. When they woke up they had a few hours to play outside with Nathan, eat dinner, play some more with Josh and Nathan indoors. We picked out some stickers for their reward chart since they ate all of their dinner. Then, it was time to take them back to town. We met their dad at the BEE MOVIE. We had a GREAT time having the girls for the day. I’m glad we were having a slow weekend so we could take them with us.

On Sunday, I had a bunch of co-op things to do, work to do from being gone all weekend last weekend, and some baking/cooking. Emily started a cleaning job so I had to run her into town to meet with Grandma Bonnie to see what all has to be done. I went to get the groceries and so some more Christmas shopping while Emily cleaned.

We have a couple of friends who have had babies recently and we’ve been wanting to make dinner for them. So, I made LOTS of batches of Easy Oven Stew (click on this link for the recipe) Sunday night. I even made 2 little batches to take to Amanda…. those two little cute pans are for you, honey! I’ll drop them off at your work later today.

We also made several batches of Carmel Apple cobbler as well as a Cherry Cobbler for us. It was SO GOOD! Karen, fellow blogger and IRL friend, was one of the ones we took dinner today and she just called to say it all passed inspection at her house! YIPPEE!

After everyone was ready for bed we had a little excitement. A MOUSE! We haven’t had a mouse in the house in so long I can’t even remember the last time. Nathan and I were the only ones still downstairs. We went up to get Tim who had, unfortunately for him, already fallen asleep. He woke up and did what every guy who lives out in the country does when there’s a mouse in the house. He went to the garage to bring in a *GUN*! Ok.. now I KNOW there will be a few SHSers who won’t want to read this part and I’m sorry, but I can’t stand mice and couldn’t wait for a trap to work… so dh shot the mouse, took it outside, and then I was able to go to sleep while poor Tim was then wide awake for a few more hours after having to go out in the cold and deal with all the mice stuff. We think it came in around the bathroom faucet where Tim has been trying to get a part to fix the tub faucet. It’s now fixed and the other pipes he’s been working are now surrounded with steel wool…

OH MY!!!! This cracks me up, because I know exactly what you mean. Dh kept thinking he’d “get” to use a bb gun to scare a neighbor cat that hangs out under our bird feeder, despite the continued objections of me and dc. He finally just used the DOG, and it worked FINE, lol.

I can’t believe Tim shot the gun in the house. Did it leave a hole? Pictures!

The stew sounds great!

LOL…you just got to love country living! We have quite a few “gun” stories…involving all sorts of critters at all hours of the day and night.

Tell Tim that is mighty fine shooting!

Well Cindy-it sounds like you need to get a couple more! Kids that is. Bret needs another pal and hurry, he/she will already be over a year younger than him.

Wow…he must be a great shot! LOL As much as I love rodents (and you know I *really* do), I would never want to have a wild one loose in my house. ~Yvonne

That story just makes me laugh and giggle. Too funny. And I have copied your beef stew recipe to make soon. The caramel apple cobbler looks wonderful, too!

What a fun day you had with the girls! I also miss not having real little ones around anymore. That is why I enjoy picking up Lisa’s kids or Selena. Also, your stew and cobblers look good.
Congrats to Tim on “taking care” of the mouse 🙂

Loved, loved, loved the dinner. The crisp was awesome! You really do need to post that recipe (no matter how simple it is).

Thanks so much!

:::giggle::: Steve also shot a mouse in our house. Actually, this was some sort of enormous gerbil/field mouse cross gone terribly wrong and it truly scratched on our front door and ran IN the house when Joshua opened the door. This was years ago when Brooke was just an infant. Steve was working nights then, so we all packed up and slept at my in-laws.

When Steve came home in the morning, he had a “stake out” in the living room. The mouse was behind the sofa. When Steve’s dad moved the sofa, it ran out and Steve shot it.

He also hummed a big butcher knife at one that was running across our counters. He missed the mouse, but I do have a nice big chip out of my formica backsplash.

The joys of country living, huh?

A LIFE THAT MATTERED

A LIFE THAT MATTERED By Pastor Gary Helsby “On behalf of Beth’s family, I wish to thank each of you for being here today.  Today is a very difficult day – there are many “unanswered” questions about why such a beautiful person, who had so much love for life and who …

SEQUENCE

Nathan, Tim, and I played a lively game of Sequence this evening.  I should have won the first round, but SOMEONE had to open up their mouth and let on to someone else my strategy which was to win 2 sequences with one last chip!  That play fell through and …
