TIRE CHANGING – DAY 155 of P365

Kids - Josh
7

We ordered new tires for our four-wheeler since they were worn out and one of them kept going flat. Tim had told Josh that he could change them if he wanted to give it a try. Of course, Josh LOVES to have a “meaningful task” and couldn’t wait to do this all by himself! He made sure we went to town the day the new tires were supposed to be ready *AND* he even watned to go with me to town to pick them. up.

At the tire shop, he talked to the repairman asking them to show him which way the tread was supposed to run and double checking the tread was going the right way for the left/right tires. Everything looked good and Josh couldn’t WAIT to get home to put them back on. He had helped Tim take them off so he knew just what to do. I had to go out and get some pictures for the blog (that’s a good excuse when you don’t want young men to think their mom is coming out to “supervise” what they’re doing.. I really wouldn’t have a clue if he was doing it right or not, but at least I can be sure he’s doing it safely.!)

Nathan, of course, has to be right in on the action now that he’s a BIG BOY! He’s quickly becoming Josh’s assistant and it’s fun to watch Josh training Nathan how to do various things. Nathan’s, who looks MUCH older than 4 when he’s “working”, job was to roll all of the tires into place. HOW in the world did he know that the bigger ones go in back and the smaller ones go in front? I didn’t even know that. Do boys just “know” these things or what?

Everything started out fine and then the tire started rolling the wrong way… toward the lawn mower instead of the four wheeler (LOL).

Nathan quickly retrieved it and got it heading in the right direction again!

Whew.. he made it. The tire is now leaning up against the axle and is ready for Josh to come and do his thing.

I just don’t know how he grew up so fast! I’m continually amazed at all he knows how to do! Photobucket - Video and Image HostingLOL.. he did what anyone would do, I suppose. He went and got the tractor from the back of our property.

He positioned the bucket into the right spot….

tossed the chain up and around….

hooked the chain….. he really had to work hard to pull himself up onto the bucket in this photo.

raised the bucket lifting up the four-wheeler and commenced changing the tires.

After all of that you would think I could have gotten an after photo, but I didn’t. He even put all of the mess away when he was done and Nathan, of course, was glad to help!
Anything Josh is able to do for Tim means more time for Tim to do FUN stuff with the kids and I when he’s home from work! Josh is a BIG help to Tim and I and one day Nathan will be as well.

I wish my kids had those kind of experiences. My first two boys aren’t very hands on . . but Landon is . . maybe there’s hope!

Wow! I’m amazed at how competent the boys are at helping. Are they interested in following in their father’s footsteps and keeping the business in the family?

This is SO cool to see Josh do this kind of stuff!

Trevor (just turned 9) is more than happy just pretending to be Spiderman, webbing his way around and house, and imagining how he might do DNA work when he grows up–so he can use spider DNA to spin human webs or something like that, lol!

LITTLE BITES OF HAPPINESS

Nathan’s friend, Noah, came over to hang out today and enjoy one last day of Christmas break before school resumes for both of them tomorrow. On the way home from picking him up at “the bridge,” I asked if the boys wanted some oatmeal for breakfast, but no. They wanted …

LET IT SNOW

Being in the road building business, one thing we don’t have to worry about is being snowed in. As long as the weather isn’t so cold that we can’t start the equipment, you’ll find our men out and about plowing everyone’s driveways up and down our road and a few …

TODDLER AT WORK

Anyone who knows me, knows I’m a firm believer in giving kids meaningful “work” to do :). Charlie is “working” in this photo.   Fourth-generation construction business owner coming right up 🙂
