There are many reasons we like living out here in the country (and an equally long list of reasons why we don’t which I’ll explore next week). Here are the first thirteen that come to mind:

  1. Beautiful unobstructed views of the sunrise & sunset.
  2. Plenty of time to get the house in shape before company arrives since NO ONE comes clear out here unannounced.
  3. Miles of ditch bank to walk in search of wild asparagus to pick for dinner.
  4. Our dog doesn’t have to be confined to a fenced-in yard or be tied up to a chain.
  5. Kids learn to drive at an earlier age. (kids asked me to list this)
  6. There isn’t a house right next to us – our nearest neighbors are 1/2 mile away.
  7. We don’t have to worry about noise levels – the kids can play LOUDLY outside, we can turn up the music while shooting hoops, and no one cares if we’re outdoors late into the night or very early in the morning.
  8. Country sounds – the train in the distance, tractors working in the fields, wind blowing, animal noises, and sometimes NO noise at all.
  9. Sending the little ones into the locally owned grocery store without any $$ because we have an in-store charge account.
  10. The postmaster calls when “more” books have arrived to make sure we are home before they deliver them so they don’t sit outside all day.
  11. Shooting off fireworks legally.
  12. Having a bonfire in our back yard.
  13. The nice long drive home from town (LOL).

I’m looking forward to moving out of suburbia. I was a little nervous about the septic/well, but then I found out that most people are on DIALUP and I got REALLY nervous!

(Actually, I think I’m in an area where I can get some sort of high speed, but I don’t want to call yet and be disappointed!)

We’ve only had high speed for just over a year… barely… up until then it was dial up. And, we can’t have caller ID and call waiting functions working at the same time (LOL)… that would be nice.

Septic/well haven’t been a problem for us. At least we can water as often as we want!

I never knew there was an official Thursday Thirteen. I’ll check that out. We live in the country too so I enjoyed your post. Although some of them are very different in our part of the country. Unobstructed view…nope trees, trees and more trees! LOL

Laura,

Since we have our own business and we work all over the state that part of living out here in the country doesn’t really affect us. However, there are lots of things it DOES affect… church, co-op, friends, etc…. I’ll post the reasons we DO NOT like living in the country on next week’s TT13.

Jodi,
I didn’t really know there was an “offical” TT13 either until I went searching for a sidebar icon the other day. It’s been kind of fun to see other people’s TT13 ideas. I’m also enjoying the Photo Hunters thing as well.

T13 – THINGS WE DON’T LIKE ABOUT LIVING IN THE COUNTRY

Last week I listed some of the things we like about living out here in the country. I’ve since thought of more things, but I’ll save that list for another day. As promised last week, today I’ll list some of the things that we don’t enjoy about living out here …

THURSDAY THIRTEEN

Several of the blogs I surf participate in Thursday Thirteen. I’ve looked into this before, but I’ve never taken the time to figure out what you’re supposed to do until today. I thought there was some master list somewhere that everyone was to follow, but there isn’t. It’s basically a …
