SCRAPBOOK CHALLENGE

Are you ready for a Scrapbook Challenge this summer?

I *need* a challenge. Yes. It’s sad, but true. I need goals and rewards to motivate me to get anything done these days. In June, I sent out a Monday Madness plea to my “real life” friends letting them know I desperately (well I must not have sounded desperate enough) NEEDED people to come over to my house to scrapbook. I KNOW myself all too well and knew that if someone else wasn’t coming over I probably wouldn’t actually get around to digging into my messy scrapbook room which also means that I wouldn’t get any scrapbooking done. When I sent out the Monday Madness plea (figuring it would be as good a day as any other) I thought that at least some of my fellow co-op moms might be able to come since we were already accustomed to being out of the house and tied up all day every Monday for co-op. I found out, however, that it sure doesn’t take long to fill up our Mondays with other things (makes me wonder how I’ll ever be ready to start co-op again this fall and have every Monday tied up again – lol) because so far no one has been able to come out yet. Can you believe that we’ve gone through an ENTIRE MONTH of Mondays and I still haven’t scrapbooked one single time this summer? Yikes. That’s not good considering catching up my albums was supposed to be my big summertime “project.” Instead of stewing over the fact that no one has joined me for a day of scrapbooking yet, I decided to offer out a blogosphere challenge.

I’m hoping my blogosphere friends will help me over the scrapbooking slump I currently find myself bogged down in. What better way to do that than offer a Scrapbook Challenge? I want to thank JEN, one of my long time cyber friends & creator of many awesome digital scrapbook pages & word art creations, for making the really KEWL Scrapbook Challenge icon you see above. Stop by Jen’s blog and check out her awesome word art creations. You’ll enjoy them! She did a GREAT job on the Scrapbook Challenge icon! She actually made two of them that I REALLY like which means if there is enough interest in blogging about our scrapbooking progress (or lack thereof) then I’ll use the other icon she created for a 2008 Scrapbook Challenge!

Those of you who have known me for very long will be surprised and not surprised by the following information. Surprised because normally I would have something like this all detailed out with color coded spreadsheets, a months-in-advance plan or list, etc. Not surprised that I don’t have these things ready since I only thought of this idea last January (Jen can attest to the fact that I asked her about the icon thingie MANY MONTHS ago) and normally ideas like this percolate in my head for a year or more while I work out details and before I decide to do anything about them because, after all, I need to know how it’ll all work BEFORE I jump in, right? So whether you’re in the surprised or not surprised category I’m guessing you won’t believe that I’m going to jump into this Scrapbook Challenge having NO idea what the challenges will be (other than this first one), no set rules or instructions, no answers to any questions that might come up, and that I’m actually doing something about this instead of sitting around here still only thinking about the idea, etc. IOW, I’m “winging” this one out of a necessity to JUST DO IT! And some won’t be surprised that I’m FINALLY getting around to it *TODAY* because it’s the first day of a new week and a new month and I’m kind of a “first” type person… always have to start fresh at the beginning of a week, on the 1st, or the beginning of a new month, etc. Today happens to fit the bill for ALL of those things! No. I did *NOT* plan it that way. It just happened this way….coincidental? Probably not….my internal clock seems perpetually set on “knowing” when it’s the 1st…especially when the 1st falls at the beginning of a week *AND* month (LOL).

That’s the VERY long introduction to why I’m offering a Scrapbook Challenge! The rules are pretty easy to follow! You can set your own challenges or particpate in any of the challenges that I’ll suggest now and then. As long as you are setting a goal and working toward it you can feel free to copy the above icon to your computer and then upload it to your blog. Please link back to this entry so others can join the Scrapbook Challenge. BE SURE TO leave a comment in my comment section letting me know that you want to be a Scrapbook Challenge Participant. I will make a list of all the participants so we can easily check out each other’s blogs. Remember there are NO time limits or rules for any challenges that you set for yourself, but the “reward” for setting a goal and working on it is that you get to place a really KEWL looking icon on your blog! Thanks again, Jen, for making the icon.

I see this as a type of game. You know the kind where I challenge you to do something and you challenge someone else, etc., and we all make progress because we’re holding each other accountable to reaching our goals. So, let the games (um challenges) begin!

Oooh Oooh! Me, Me!!

I’ve not done any scrapping for MONTHS!

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get started properly until we finish up school, which will be in 2 weeks. Then I’ll try to catch up with what everyone’s been up to.

I LOVE the icon thingy, Jen.

Great idea, Cynthia. Thanks for getting me enthusiastic again.

Now, if I save the picture to my computer and then put it in the sidebar of my blog, will it then automatically take people back to this post? Or not. Sorry I’m so dense. Or shall I just post a blurb about it as a blog entry, giving a link back to you?

Dorothy

Dorothy,
You’re welcome. I figured if everyone else in blogosphere was workingon their albums I might be motivated myself! I haven’t scrapbooked since before Christmas… bad, bad bad! No problem if you can’t start for a few weeks. That’s why I didn’t set any deadlines (except for the give away, of course, and I thought a month was a very generous amount of time to give people to organize something… anything)…. you set your own challenges, goals, deadlines, etc. We’ll be here to motivate and encourage you if we know what your goals are!

I think the only challenge you need to give most of us is just to do SOMETHING, ANYTHING, finish one silly page!

I planned to scrap every Tuesday over the summer, have I missed any of those yet?

Argh!

Oh Liz,
You ALWAYS make me laugh! Just do
“anything”… TRUE! I think home schoolers like to veg out in the summer… anything to do with sitting at a table or desk seems too schoolish for me these days!

Cynthia, count me in. I’m still on a “journey” to figure out what I want to do scrapbooking wise, but I certainly can do something!

I’ll try and post on my blog sometime today.

Thanks for the challenge!

I would love to be part of it. Unfortunately, in the middle of moving, packing, unpacking and getting ready for the trip to Hungary in 3 1/2 weeks this summer is just too crazy. Maybe in the fall I can start up. Have fun!

Cynthia I am using my blog Musical Bookworm for the scrapbook challenge. The link for it is on my P365 blog in the “Blogs and other sites I visit” under the title “My Main Blog”

Me too, I can’t believe how unmotivated I seem to be about scrapbooking and it NEEDS TO BE DONE!

I like Liz’s version of a goal. I’ll make myself start when I get rid of this nasty cold.

I’m with you on this one, Cynthia. I kept seeing it being alluded too & thought I had missed it!!!! So glad I didn’t. I’m jumping in with both feet. I’ve lost my groove so to speak & want to get it back! 🙂

I’m new to the world of blogging, but love the idea of a scrapbook challenge. I’d like to join in!

Debbie,
Well.. hopefully we can put all of our heads together to figure out what to do about merging blogging and scrapping… on the same mission you are, but first I need to get some things organized!

Bess,
Glad to have you along! I bet your mom LOVES having a dd who enjoys scrapbooking. My dds aren’t as in to scrapbooking as I am. Invite your friends to join the challenge as well.

Amy,
Yep.. feel free to join us in the fall. There are no time deadlines (other than the organizing one which is only because there is a prize to give away) for you to reach the goals YOU set. Just set a few goals and feel free to use the icon to show your participating in a challenge to scrapbook! Maybe you could do some preliminary things for your trip? Things such as get some journal paper to jot notes down on so some journaling is all done by the time you get back home?

Lisa,
Thanks for being so patient! I have been talking about it for awhile, but I have a tendency to procrastinate. FINALLY, I just decided to do it!

Jodi,
I hope you’re feeling better VERY SOON! Looking forward to having you aboard the scrapbook challenge!

Robin,
Do you need help getting the icon into your sidebar? Just wondering since you are new to blogging. Also, be sure to leave me your blog address so I can add you to the blogroll for this challenge.

Oh, me too!!! I so need to do this as my scrapbook table is overflowing! Not sure how to do the link thing, I just started my own blog so I’ll look into it and get it figured out. Maybe if I can get over your way (may need to sneak away for a day by myself) we could scrap together in real life! LOL! Thanks!
Melissa

Your posts on this have me cracking up and I needed a moment of levity tonight…..Mike gave away his salmon! I waited all day for THAT salmon – I had plans to put it on ice and mail it to TX….28 lbs of salmon gone…. ::gasp:: So reading your blog tonight cheered me right up.

I’m really laughing at your intro to the challenge. ::snort::

The icons are darling! I love, love, love them.

I’m still evolving in my scrapping as I go back to simple…but I guess if you can call “photo album” progress scrapping I can join. LOL When I get back to TX….at this point my goal is to keep all the photos two digitals are taking organized on the laptop until we get home. LOL

DeEtta,

I told Lisa that blogging counted because it *IS* organizing photos and journaling the memories!

And… I told someone else that keeping digital photos organized counted… because as I said… organize *ANYTHING* that has to do with scrapbooking… so it sounds like keeping up with your vacation photos on vacation would count in my book. I’m easy to please and everyone should come out a winner!

Okay! I’m joining the Scrapbook Challenge. I’ve tidied up PART of my scrapbooking stuff (you saw that blog post) and will be working on the rest of it today.

Cynthia! I have accomplished my scrapbooking challenge goal.

I have my scrapbooking area moved and organized. You can check it out on my blog!

Thanks for a great challenge. What are we doing next?

Most people who enter our church’s car show probably spend the day before polishing and clean up their entries.  Not us!  Nope.  We don’t have a fancy car.  In fact, our rig isn’t even entirely painted.  So, there was no need for polishing and prettying it up!  No, indeed.  Tim …
