SCIENCE CO-OP: We tried to take photographs of the moon this year when it was not in the position we are used to seeing it in – at night…
This year we participated in a science co-op with a few other families using the Apologia Astronomy book. Each time we met a different mom was in charge. They would coordinate what we were doing that week and the rest of us would pitch in to help however we could. The kids had a GREAT TIME getting together to do the experiments that went with the lessons we studied at home. Here are some pictures from science this past year school year:

Our FINAL day was spent shooting off the rockets that we made. A fun way to end the book. Nathan even made his own rocket!

For my part of the last day I invited a guest speaker in to show us what the space suit material is like (sort of anyway). One of the airport fireman came with their suit and talked about heat and more.
Most of the rest of these pictures are from the studies of various planet’s atmospheres. Here one of the moms brought one of those electricity lamps that sets off a current each time it is touched. The kids had a TON of fun with that. We also did an experiment with static electricity (lightening) on the same day but I didn’t get a picture of it.

One of the moms brought a remote control balloon that the kids had fun playing with while discussing space travel. Here Josh is taking his turn controlling it.
Hopefully Josh was listening carefully to the teacher and isn’t tasting something he wasn’t supposed to taste!

Emily is very carefully measuring something. The next picture is a study in atmosphere again.. this time making a tornado in a bottle.

Even the little ones were able to participate. Here is Nathan and another preschooler enjoying one of the experiments.
