ROOT CANAL – DAY 53 OF PROJECT 365

UGH…. A few weeks ago I went to the dentist to have a cavity filled. It was “supposedly” a small one, but when they got in there they realized it was bigger than the X-ray showed. So, they did a pulp cap and said it should be fine for awhile, but may eventually need a root canal. That sent fear straight through me! While I was there I inquired about a tooth on the other side that has bothered me for a year now… they keep telling me that it’s a problem along the gum line that will correct itself after my braces have been off awhile longer. So, I went on my merry way thinking the pain would begin to lessen.. and they gave me some sealant stuff to put on the gum line.
Well… a few days later the pain got even worse! Finally it got so bad that I couldn’t even eat anything hot on the other side of my mouth without it sending sharp, shooting pain clear up to my ear. So, I called them back. They were fit me in the same day and said my tooth had died and I needed a root canal…. NOT what I wanted to hear and especially not 2 days before going on vacation! They were going to do the root canal right then and there, but I decided to go back the next a.m. instead. NOTICE picture above (LOL)… If I could have done it myself I might have >VBG>! Control issues you know.
The next day I went in and had the root canal and it wasn’t as bad as I had it made out to be in my mind…. of course, that’s partially because everytime I felt the SLIGHTEST HINT of discomfort I flinched to the point that they agreed to give me more numbing medication! In the end it was about double what they said they normally give, but that was OK with me! After a dozen shots I finally felt I could relax a little bit knowing that I wasn’t going to get zinged.
Now… the other tooth that they said would probably need a root canal someday is having what I think is sympathy pains….. I’m PRAYING it doesn’t decide to up and die on me while on vacation… I’m armed with lots of pain meds and antibiotics so that the root canal I had 2 days ago won’t give me any fits and I’m hoping that the pain in my other tooth will just go away…. if not it’ll be heading for a root canal as well and that one won’t be able to be done by the dentist. The one I just had one was only one root, the other one is three which means going to an endodontist (sp?).
SO.. bakc to the above picture. I’m EVER SO THANKFUL for the conveniences of modern medicine!
