REPUBLIQUE STATION

When we first started planning this trip, we looked at the map to see where we could find a hotel which would be near a metro station close to the lines we needed for getting from the airport to the hotel upon our arrival and from the hotel to the main train station upon our departure. We decided on something near the Republique station. The subway stations are more clean than I remember. Michaela suggested perhaps that’s because I’m older and have seen more things since then or perhaps it’s because I’m taller now (LOL).

For those who have followed Amanda on FB, this is the place where she posted that we were officially lost in Paris. We knew we were at the right station, but there are streets going every direction, or so it seems, and none of them looked like where we needed to be. She only looks slightly concerned in the photo above. I mean. Really. How could one be lost when you have a map, street signs, and google on your phone? It just took a few minutes to get our bearings straight. And, I use the word “our” loosely. I leave the directions up to the girls. I plan the trips. They do the left/right east/west stuff……It’s just better that way.

So, above. Michaela went off in search of our street with her map and guidebook in hand while the rest of us guarded the luggage.

Em looks right at home here, doesn’t she? We waited and waited. Pretty soon Michaela came back from one direction and left in another still in search of the right street for our hotel. Fortunately, there was an ice cream stand nearby so I gave the girls some euros and sent them off in search of a little treat to tide us over before meeting the one person we know in Paris (see next blog entry) for coffee and tea.

Below the girls have their “you’re kidding” look on their faces when Michaela came back from one direction and reported she had “no idear” which way to go…..

We did eventually find our hotel, but that’s for another blog entry….
I wasn’t going to post this picture of me because my eyes are closed and there’s no makeup and the hair is a mess… it’s been, afterall, at least 24 hours since we left home. But, the pictures don’t really get any better than this (my eyes are always closed) so I’ll post it since people always complain that I don’t post any pictures of me. Now you know why I don’t post pictures of me (LOL). And, besides that. Tater misses me and he doesn’t care what the picture looks like as long as I post one and SOON!

I vividly remember being lost in Paris – and in a rainstorm! The final blow was trying to cross a wide, busy street and my purse broke as I was 1/2 way across. I mean it REALLY broke – as in broke open. My passport, money, all my papers went flying out on the street in the rain. While we were scrambling to pick it all up the light changed and cars started honking at us. I thought they were going to run over us! Welcome to Paris! Ugh. Vivid memory. Glad you had ice cream and sunshine! 🙂

MUSEE RODIN

One of the many things on my Paris “hope to see” list was the Musee Rodin.  Because we had a mile-long list of things to see today and because I was the only one with this on their must-see list, we opted to make this a very quick stop (as in probably only …

BIKING THROUGH PARIS

If I don’t already sound like a broken record when I say I researched all of the xyz options for abc before we booked our trip (or chose this crockpot or picked that curriculum, etc), just stick around awhile and I’m sure you’ll eventually come to that conclusion (LOL) since …

A.M. VISIT TO EIFFEL TOWER

I’m sure everyone would have preferred to sleep in a little longer today (9/26), but again, trying to avoid jet lag I scheduled us to be up and out of the hotel by 7:00 a.m. I actually wanted to leave at 6:30 but Michaela thought that was way too early …
