THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS

The girls decided to sign us up for Netflix. Now we have 3 movies a week heading to our house. We are doing a month long free trial right now to see if it would save them any $$ as compared to renting movies at the local movie store. They usually incur several late fees a month. Late fees are cheaper than making a trip to town just to return a movie.

I rarely take time to sit down to watch a movie since there are always 100 things needing to be done around here. When I DO take time to sit down to start watching one I normally fall asleep (LOL). Yesterday I had a coffee AND a nap which meant I was wide awake enough to watch a movie last night!

We watched The Pursuit of Happyness. When I read the envelope cover I thought for sure they had spelled “happyness” wrong until I watched the movie (LOL). This movie is based on the true story of Chris Gardner who works hard to build a better life for his family (he and his son… his wife leaves him part way through the movie). He hits rock bottom and they end up living in shelters and on the streets before landing a job with a stock brockerage firm. Overall it was a great movie and I’m glad I watched it. However, there were a couple “bad” words here and there.. thankfully not too many.

I don’t sit down and watch a movie long enough either to require doing something like netflix. There is just too much that needs to be done! 🙂 Thanks for the tip on the movie though. That was one I thought I wanted to see!

We love Netflix. I don’t end up watching many movies myself, but I order movies for the kids to watch Friday mornings when we don’t have school.
Sometimes we can get decent educational movies that tie into whatever we’re studying at the time, as well.

We love netflix too. I don’t watch often – well I start every week but fall asleep….but we also get documentaries and videos that go along with the period we are studying in school. It’s been money well spent for us.

I really liked this movie also. I’m not a movie watcher but just happened to watch this one.LOL We have blockbuster.com I like that we can trade it at the store if we decide we want a new one right away. Allison is doing the Movies as Literature course so we invested in the on-line thing.

Cynthia, we live in the boonies as well. Netflix has been GREAT for us. We actually get four movies at at time. My hubby manages the account. We have four separate profiles & queues. One for him, one for me, one for the kids, & one for the TV series that he & I like to watch. It’s fabulous. No late fees are the absolute best part for us as we were renting near where my hubby works – an hour drive one way.

We saw that movie. It was a good one. My MIL didn’t like it. She said it made her tired, watching him always running, then when he finally had something good happen, the movie ended. :^D Okay, MIL. Kind of like she didn’t like The Nativity because the actors wore bland colored, rough clothing, there was too much sand, too many animals, and too much about birth. LOL!

We too enjoy Netflix. I think we end up with about a dozen movies a month on the $17.99 pan. Just over a dollar a movie and no gas or travel wasted.

I can’t sit still long enough to watch movies. (However, I can sit in front of the computer for hours, lol.) But it won’t surprise you to know that I have read this book. Intentional misspellings like this *really* irritate me. It was a good book overall. Whatever this guy did seemed sure to be a success, he seems EXTREMELY motivated and intelligent.

If my dh finds out details about Netflix, I’m sure he’ll sign up. But I’m keeping mum!

We gave up Netflix because we kept forgetting to watch the movies — but this is one that I watched before we cancelled. I think its amazing and very motivational.

Amy,
Me either, but the kids and dh like to watch movies and Netflix saves us $$ so that’s why we tried it.

Robin,
I tried to convince the kids to put some history movies in the cue, but so far none have shown up in the mail (LOL).

DeEtta,
You and me both. I just can’t stay awake. I have to PLAN to watch a movie… iow, I have to take a nap first!

Lisa,
We’re actually switching to the Blockbuster one now that our month trial of Netflix is up. We’re finding that it takes 2-3 days to turn a movie around not the 1 day that they say. With Blockbuster at least we can drop it off in town if we want to get one faster.

Ginger,
LOL about your mil watching the movie making her tired. I wondered if he ever got back together with his wife or not….

Lisa (Berry Patch),
Our dds take care of the entire thing so I have no idea what types of profiles or accounts we have.. I just give the credit card # when needed (LOL).

Jodi,
It is SO nice to not have to remember to take the movies back.. and it’s great fun to see a new one come in the mail. The kids are always surprised about what’s out at the mailbox because I never get around to telling them that Netflix emailed what they were sending (LOL).

Kristine,
No, I’m not surprised that you’ve read the book.. I didn’t even know there was a book.. but I would figure if there was you would be the one that has read it!

I think we can sit at the computer for hours because it’s interactive.. unlike watching a movie…

Oh.. one more thing Kristine.. you may want to reconsider Netflix or some other similar service after you move to the COUNTRY!

Bridget,
I’m not sure how long we’ll last with this type of service after we reach the paying point… I’m not sure we’ve watched enough this month to warrant the cost.. however, when the days are shorter and the evenings are longer we might watch a few more.

BLOCK BOOKS

I ran across the “block” books by Christopher Franceschelli three years ago when Charlie was just a baby. I made a note of them in my book file so I would remember to buy one when he was old enough for his first board book.I bought the Alpha Block book …

GILGAMESH TRILOGY

The last time we studied the Ancients (4 years ago), I borrowed this Gilgamesh Trilogy from someone.  As I was preparing our materials for this year, I remembered that I had planned to purchase this set for our own library the next time we study the Ancients. This summer I …
