PROJECT 365

PhotobucketI was going to take an online photography class, but decided I couldn’t handle the stress of having a set assignment schedule with real deadlines. Instead, I have requested a few books from the library and dug out some photography books I had here on my shelf. I’m also reading through a book that Tim got for Christmas which I’ll review another day.

In this picture I was trying to do this vertical frame thingie (no time to look up the actual terms the book used and y’all know I wouldn’t remember them anyway so why bother…. at least *I* know what I was trying to do – lol). I suppose technically there should be a frame item on the other side, but there wasn’t any such thing since she was looking out the window so I just cut off 1/2 her head instead. I was glad to get a picture that wasn’t really posed. I think by the time I took this one she was pretty much just ignoring the fact that I was practically in her face taking pictures of her looking out the window at Nathan playing (LOL).

I hestitate to even post this picture (or any other P365 ones this year) since I think her dad might read the blog occasionally. He *IS* a photographer and my photos will never be 1/2 as good as his so I’m not sure what I was thinking when I took a picture of one of his kids for my photography project (LOL). Oh well. I think it’s an adorable picture of her so I’m going to post it even if it does have some “technical” problems.

I know there are a few more things I should have paid closer attention to when I took this photo.

1. I think I cut off a little too much of her left hand. I think I shouldn’t have cut it so close to her wrist. I probably should have included just a little more of her wrist.

2. I think I should have included a little bit more of the window on the far left hand side of the picture. You can just BARELY see a little bit of tree branch and then the white trim of the window. It probably would have told more of a story if I had included more of the actual scene outside the window which I could have done if I had moved over just a little bit more.

Does anyone care to tell me anything else about this picture?

PS: I haven’t really posted any “offical” P365 photos yet. I’m not even going to try to label them 1-365 or else I’ll get frustrated with being behind. I am going to label the P365 ones as such in the title so those scrolling through the P365 ring will at least know this is a picture taken specifically for that project so they can skip other “life” posts they may not be interested in.

About the matching frames, I think ‘just’ one side can add a lot of visual interest to a photo. The danger with two ‘equal’ sides is that it can look too phony or forced–so I like the window frame on just one side.

I don’t agree about leaving in more of her hand or the window. The interesting part to ME is her face, and I would have cropped out more of the window. More detail makes it look cluttered to me.

So you’ll probably never ask again for comments . . . I’d love to take some sort of formal photography class, but I don’t see THAT happening ANYtime in my future!

I would love to take a class too but I know now is not the time for me right at this moment . . hopefully sometime this year though.

I like the photo, Cynthia. Like Kristine, I might have pulled in closer on her face instead. Framing is a hard thing to do (I think anyway). Sometimes all you need is a bit of something else (tree branch, whatever) to give scale & help with the framing. I do like it as is. If anything, I might have moved up a bit so as not to have cut off the top of her head – pulled back some? Not sure. Overall it’s pretty good IMHO. 🙂

DOUBLE OVEN

Cleaning the oven doors has been on my to-do list for quite some time!  Over the weekend, I searched Pinterest and other kitchen cleaning sites to try to find the best way to clean the film off from the inside of the glass. Ordinarily, this film would probably disappear during …

INDOOR BASKETBALL

These boys love to play basketball.  For quite some time, they’ve been talking about how they need another hoop so they can have a full court!  The one you can’t see is mounted above the entryway into this room directly opposite this standing hoop.   They talked about putting up …

PONTOON

I’m typically not one who listens to country music very often, but for some reason I’ve been hearing this song almost everywhere I turn this year and it reminds me so much of our dear friends and our annual (we’ve only had two so far, but who’s counting!) camping trip …
