PERSEIDS METEOR SHOWER TONIGHT!

Are there any other amateur astonomers out there? I’ve been known to wake our entire family up in the middle of the night if I see something worth (or not) going out to view! One time it was snowing and cold, but that didn’t stop me. I still drug the two middles kids out of bed grabbing sleeping bags, hand warmers, and hot chocolate to sit on an outdoor bench and watch the meteors.

According to the NASA website, you might see some of the Perseid Earthgrazers starting around 9:00 p.m. Here’s a quote from the website:

“Earthgrazers are long, slow and colorful; they are among the most beautiful of meteors,” says Cooke. He cautions that an hour of watching may net only a few of these–“at most”–but seeing even one makes the long night worthwhile.

According to the NASA website, by 2:00 a.m. there should be dozens of meteors per hour increasing to one per minute near dawn. My advice. Take a long nap today so you can stay up all night enjoying the Perseid Meteor shower tonight. You can get more information at the NASA website. At least you shouldn’t need hand warmers and hot chocolate tonight! If you want to come to our house to watch the meteor shower, be sure to bring some mosquito spray!

We woke the kids but only one could be persuaded to get out of bed!

We each saw about a dozen. It was really good! Normally, we have too much cloud!

We watched them one night recently. We’ve been trying to get out to spot the space shuttle at the correct times each evening too. Very cool.

Oh, thank you! I don’t know that I’ll be waking anyone up, but I’ll be there! It has been such a long time, and I stopped keeping track!

Oh, I just noticed the date. Silly me. Well, I’ll wish that I were out. Maybe I’ll go out, anyway. Just for the fun of it.

I’d love to watch these! Maybe I’ll have a better chance of seeing something out in the middle of nowhere, although there are loads of trees everywhere, limiting my view of the sky . . .

So, did you see anything? (I hate to ask, because I always forget to go back and read answers to blog comments, but I’m still curious!)
