INSIDE A 4 YO MIND

So… you saw all of the questions I asked Nathan in the post above.

Here’s what happened from his perspective.

He came downstairs and said “morning mom” just like he always does and when I didn’t answer him he came around the corner to my desk and didn’t see me here.

Then he said he started crying and running from room to room. Then he went outside and cried some more when the car wasn’t there and that’s when he turned on the light outside the garage.

He came back in the house and tells us that he told himself he “needed to make a PLAN.” (ok the poor little guy has heard that more than a million times in his short 4 years) Then, he has a really long explanation of all the things he thought about doing. Those of you who know Nathan IRL will know that he’s quite a talker and won’t be surprised at this long list.

First he thought he should take the car, but he knew he shouldn’t go out on the road.

Then he said he thought about taking the go-cart, but didn’t know how he would get it through the fence. Now you know why we keep the keys hidden!

Then he decided it would be best to just walk to the neighbors and he said he knew he could do that because we walked all the way down there the other day.

He said it was cold out so he knew he needed to get his clothes and coat on. I asked him what kind of plan he was making and he said “mom… I was planning how to get to grandma’s house”. He planned to go to the neighbors first. I asked him what he planned to do when he got there and he said he was going to tell them that he “needed to live there for a little while until his mom got back home.”

He said he wasn’t worried and quit crying after he made a plan about what to do. He said he prayed “God show me where to go” and he told me that he said “Thank you God for showing him a light on at the neighbor’s house.” I doubt he saw a light on in their house because it’s too far away to see something like that. He probably saw the security light on outside.

He keeps going around the house today telling us all thank you for finding him and that he’s so glad he’s not lost anymore!! But, he ASSURES us he really wasn’t lost because he knew where he was at in the field and he knew how to get back home so in his mind he was NOT lost!

I am SO happy he’s safe, and that everything turned out fine! (Except for your nerves, of course.)

I wonder if he wasn’t still a bit sleepy when he went looking for you?

When my DH was about Nathan’s age, he had a nightmare that his mommy was running away. DH’s mom woke up at 2am when she heard the screen door slam, and they found DH circling the house, crying and and sobbing. He made several laps around the house before they caught him. He still wasn’t exactly “awake” when they caught him.

Take it easy tomorrow!

Poor little guy – how sweet of him to tell you thanks so often. Great that he knew what to do if there was an emergency…..

LITTLE BITES OF HAPPINESS

Nathan’s friend, Noah, came over to hang out today and enjoy one last day of Christmas break before school resumes for both of them tomorrow. On the way home from picking him up at “the bridge,” I asked if the boys wanted some oatmeal for breakfast, but no. They wanted …

COON “HUNTIN”

Early this morning our dog went crazy with barking and howling.  After the sun rose, we found out what all the commotion had been about as he pointed us toward a coon he had treed during the night! Mid morning the boys decided they needed to take care of the …

DUCK PREP

I’m not sure what’s going on with these duck feathers on my dining room table, but the placemat has been moved over to make room for them! And the Egg Nog has been pushed aside to make room for marinating the duck meat!!    I’m not much for animals, dead …
