He’s ONLY 9 years old!

Afew weeks ago after we finished unloading things at co-op I asked Josh to go park the YUKON for me. Later, one of the moms came to me laughing and saying she couldn’t BELIEVE that I asked him to go park the car. Honestly, I didn’t even consider that it wouldn’t be ok for him to park the car because he does that and more here at home all of the time.

It reminded me of the time a year ago when we were getting ready to go to Mississippi when Tim asked Josh to bring the pick up to the front of the building. We were outside loading and one of the guys asked if we KNEW that Josh was driving the pickup.. Tim said … yep… he told him to (LOL)!

So..that’s the background for this story. Yesterday when Tim and I were on our way home from town, he called Josh and asked him if he would back his pickup up to the trailer and get it all hooked up and ready to go so when Tim got home he could leave right away – of course we were running late. Josh was a BIG help to have this ready for Tim when we got home. It was cold. The pickup is diesel. It took longer to get it warmed up and ready to run. When we got home the pickup was warm, the trailer was hooked, and Tim was able to leave right away. Later that night I asked Josh if he had any problems hooking up and he said YES! Yikes… I was wondering if Tim should have let him do that, but I didn’t say anything. This was one of those “good” problems. Josh said the hitch was too high so he couldn’t hook up the trailer. He knew Tim wanted this done by the time we got home so he came up with a plan all by himself. He drug the floor jack out of the garage (remember it’s COLD AND SNOWING), secured it with some pieces of wood and jacked the trailer up so that he could back the pickup up under the hitch and get everything hooked up. It was all hooked up and Josh was just putting everything away when we got home.

It was so fun to see his creativity and problem solving. It does make me realize that he’s no longer my “little boy.” He’s growing up SO FAST! Where does time go?

Sounds like quite a kid! How nice that you’ve got a real helper now not just a little boy. They sure do grow up fast. My 8 yo is like this, I tell DH that Colin was born old. He always wants to do things which are old for his age but he IS actually capable, which is so helpful. Of course my 7 yo is just the opposite, oh well!

LOL, what a difference it makes to grow up in the country. We were all driving young too.

Our 14yo dd wants to drive, but there is no place to let her just drive around. We don’t even have a very big driveway.

Way to go, Josh! Good thinking and what a great learning experience for him…he has a lot of common sense, a rare gift these days.

LET IT SNOW

Being in the road building business, one thing we don’t have to worry about is being snowed in. As long as the weather isn’t so cold that we can’t start the equipment, you’ll find our men out and about plowing everyone’s driveways up and down our road and a few …

COON “HUNTIN”

Early this morning our dog went crazy with barking and howling.  After the sun rose, we found out what all the commotion had been about as he pointed us toward a coon he had treed during the night! Mid morning the boys decided they needed to take care of the …
