FLASHMASTER

PhotobucketA few years ago I was introduced to this handly little math tool called The FlashMaster. It’s an electronic flashcard computer that only weights 11 ounces! The thing I like the most about it is we no longer have to go searching for flashcards that have gone missing. YEA! We used to waste a lot of time looking for missing flashcards. The other thing I like about it is that I can now help one of the other kids with something else in the time I used to spend flipping through hundreds of mathematical flashcards.

It has many features which we don’t even get around to using such as the timed tests and special problems. But, it can track results of those and other things for you if you want it to. I just use it for the simple flashcard functions starting off with addition tables in order which Nathan is doing clear up to timed problems for out of order multiplication/division which Emily & Josh do (there’s always room to improve speed!). You can even set the amount of time the computer will allow inbetween each problem.

It’s a bit pricey at $50 plus shipping, but again, it has saved me SO MUCH time and the kids LOVE it! If you’re looking for something to replace traditional paper flashcards, you may to take a look at this.

Oh – I am so glad to see you review this product. I have looked at this a number of times over the years and yet never purchased it because I wasn’t totally sure it would work or be worth it. However, I just know this would be helpful in our homeschool! Great review!

You’re welcome, Laura. I hesitated about purchasing it as well because of the price, but then I was able to borrow one from another local homeschool. My kids gave it a try with a big thumbs up! We’ve really enjoyed adding it to our math speed drill collection.

Lisa,
It IS fun, but the best part for me is the time savings! We also like the Quarter Mile drills, but the kids almost like this better because it’s portable so they can sit anywhere in any position to work on their speed drills.

NATHAN

Nathan has a contagious laugh which you can see expressed in this great photo of him!  He’s 11 1/2 now and over 1/2 way through the 6th grade! It’s hard to believe this is the last year I’ll have a student in elementary school.  We’ll be on to Junior High …
