If you’ve read our blog very long you know that we don’t live on a farm. We do have some hay ground that we lease out, but we don’t do anything with it ourselves. So, the haystack in the picture above is not ours.
One day a month or so ago while Josh was at my mom’s house she noticed this elderly neighbor (I’m guessing he’s at least 90 or so) out trying to stack this hay. He was trying to help his grandkids with some of their work, but he could barely do it himself. It must have been 110 that day. It was hot and smokey and these hay bales are *heavy*! She sent Josh out to give him a hand.

First he had to show Josh what to do since he’s never stacked hay before and there is a pattern to it.

Then they worked together placing a few hay bales.

Then, the neighbor was able to rest while supervising Josh unloading and stacking the pickup load of hay.

I’m sure glad Josh happened to be at my mom’s that day so he could go out and lend a hand. It was WAY TOO HOT for this elderly man to be out there doing that type of extremely physical work. Notice the cane. Now look back up to the top picture and notice how far up the stack Josh is standing. I’m not even sure the elderly neighbor could have gotten up there, cane and all.
I understand he just wanted to help his grandkids, but this was too much work for him! I bet they appreciated the job being done and I’m glad Josh was able to help. It’s good for him to learn new things!
