EXPEDITION EVEREST

Vacations - 2007

From the Disney World website: “Take on the treacherous terrain of the towering Forbidden Mountain in this high-altitude, high-speed train adventure. Nail-biting hairpin turns hurl you forward toward the peak and then, just when you think it couldn’t get more thrilling – backward! The mountain’s full of surprises: Beware the snarling beast who watches over his domain… the Yeti! “

Our first stop in Disney World was Animal Kingdom. We were on a mission to ride DW’s newest attraction, Expedition Everest, first thing. Our group split up and the two sets of grandparents (plus Nathan) went to see the Lion King show (pictures of that in a later entry) while the rest of us went to scope out the Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain. Two in our group ran ahead and got Fast Passes while the rest of us went to scope out the Kali River Rapids to decide if wanted to do it while waiting for our Fast Pass time on Expedition Everest…more on that in the next post as well.
While waiting in line we could hear people screaming and a few of us weren’t too sure we still wanted to do it.

No such thing as “easing into” the rides this time. Last time we did a few of the kid type roller coaster before tackling the adult ones. Not this time. This time we started out with the newest, biggest, and scariest one (LOL). After that we could tackle ANYTHING. Here are our friends waiting in line with Amanda and Emily in the row behind them.Josh did NOT want to go on this ride. He had seen the promotional video on the Disney World website before we left home and that was enough to scare him off… but he had to stick with us and none of us wanted to give up our place in line and not ride the ride, although one of us would have if he absolutely refused to go. He went and I think he was glad to have conquered it when it was all said and done. Here you can see the little train going up into the mountain and in the next picture you see it coming down the mountain.I was NOT ready for the backwards portion of this ride. After you get up the mountain aways and go through several turns you come to a dead end. It didn’t even cross my mind that we would start going backwards. I figured the gate would open and you’d plummet to the bottom from there. Not so. Backwards we went for a very fast and what seemed like a very long time.Overall, it was a great ride and I would definitely do this one again next time. Obviously, I didn’t take any pictures while riding this ride. I was too busy hanging ON for dear life!

Aw, bless Josh’s heart! We went to Disneyland when I was 10. I was absolutely terrified of the bigger, scary rides. But it was scarier to NOT go and wait by myself. Once I got on The Matterhorn, I found it incredibly thrilling, freeing, really, for the kind of kid that I was. After that, for many years, I was always nervous about roller coasters, but in an excited way, and I was able to enjoy the rides.

Of course, now for thrills, I ride on a school bus and throw up, lol.

He was a pretty good sport, but there were a couple of times when he had a bit of an attitude…. overall he was pretty willing to try things though and then we made sure he got to do something from HIS list so he could immediately be rewarded for his willingness to go along with the group. There were times we split up and times we stayed together and so it’s good for him to learn to work with both scenarios.

LUGGAGE – DAY 62 of PROJECT 365

WHEW! This is definitely the last of our vacation pictures! The night before you arrive back in port, you leave all of your luggage out in the hallway. During the night the porters come through and deliver it *here* (LOL) and you have to dig through the piles of luggage …
