Tuesday night, we attended our local homeschool athletic association’s annual awards banquet. I’m not sure why it’s called a “banquet” since it was a dessert event, but that’s beside the point (LOL). This is an event where they recognize all of the teams and players from 5th grade through high school for all the sports activities for this school year.

I took the above photo at one of the school’s where the girls had a volleyball game. There was a nice brick wall which I thought would work well for a background. There was a pop machine giving off some light which I thought would work well for the portrait type shots.

PhotobucketEmily has a very unique serve (LOL)!! The above shot is one of my favorites because of the level of intensity it shows. Arms poised. Fingers spread. Knees bent. Eyes on the ball. I’m especially happy that everything in this picture is clear. The ball looks as if it’s just hanging there in midair (LOL). YEA for the new lens!PhotobucketAbove – Waiting for the whistle.Below – Getting ready to smack the ball.
PhotobucketPhotobucketGetting ready to smack it over the net!PhotobucketI won’t list all of her stats here, but one that we found rather impressive was her number of aces – 62% – which wasn’t too bad for her first year of high school play. Here she’s having a quiet moment before one of the games.

PhotobucketIf homeschoolers had cheerleaders, Em would be one of them. More often than not, she has a very positive attitude and she hangs right in there cheering her team on and encouraging the other team mates right up until the very last play. PhotobucketPhotobucketIn the picture below, I can almost hear her saying, “Let’s go girls. We’ve got this now. Come on. Let’s do it.” PhotobucketShe’s definitely not one of the girls the coach has to encourage to talk on the court! She’s very good at hollering out for help or letting everyone know she has it. PhotobucketThis year her main position was setter. I LOVE the picture below. It’s one of the few that I captured with her mid air with the ball actually IN the picture (LOL). I think I can work with the picture before I print it to fix the lighting, but I didn’t want to take time to do that now. The ball isn’t as sharp as I’d like it to be, but overall it’s a decent picture – certainly much better than the ones I used to get with my old lens.PhotobucketHere are some pictures that show Em in a variety of setter positions. She makes it look so easy (LOL).PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Another thing I admire about Em is that she’s not afraid to go for the ball.

I think each of the girls had a turn at being team captain. Here Em and the head coach are talking to the refs before one of the games.

Because this game went to the 3rd match (or is it a game – I always get that mixed up) as team captiain, she had to go to the net to flip a coin to see which side they would play on and which team would have the first serve.

This particular game was a very sweet win for the girls because it was against a AA public school team! I had gone out into the hallway before the start of this match (or game?) and saw some of the girls on the other team crying and saying they COULD NOT let themselves lose to a “homeschool” team. They did lose and it was a very exciting win for our girls.

PhotobucketWe weren’t sure how well Em would play coming into high school level play as a sophomore having taken off her freshmen year. She worked very hard at practice and spent hours and hours working on her serves and sets here at home. We found out at the awards banquet this week that she received the MVP award! YEA EM! We are so proud of her stick-to-it-iveness and give-it-all attitude no matter the score!

YAY! Congrats!

*as a side note: our high school volleyball team had cheerleaders… I was a cheerleader and several other teams asked us to cheer for them because we were THAT good (baseball was a bit difficult to figure out cheers for and appropriate times for them LOL)… If you have cheerleaders in your HS sports league, ask them… they might come!

Those WERE awesome picture, Cynthia. I had to laugh because the boys’ CAP squadron has an Awards Banquet every December – where we never have anything but dessert! 🙂

So cool. What kind of new lens did you get? Congrats to Emily!

Another thing, do you know if HTT has a coupon code right now? They usually do in the month of May.

Thanks
Beth

What great photos!! And congratulations to Em!! It sure sounds like you have a wonderful homeschool athletic program there. I wish we had something like that here. What a blessing! I am so glad she has been able to participate – and she has done so WELL!

Congratulations to Emily for her diligence! And–wow–she is incredibly photogenic!

Kudos to you also, Cynthia, for the many hours of sitting on hard benches and driving all over creation:)

OH BROTHER!

Josh can no longer be referred to as the girls’ “little brother.”  Amanda now officially looks UP to her little brother 🙂 And, Josh is rubbing it in just a little bit (LOL).  Notice the pinched fingers!
