EARTHQUAKE

Ok. That title is a slight exaggeration. We’re not really experiencing an “earthquake” but the earth is quaking out here!

Many of you know that we are in the dirt excavation business which means we have lots of heavy equipment around. We’re building a shop out back this spring so the guys have been busy building a new road leading back there and this week they started leveling the pad for the cement floor. Here’s where the shop will go.

This is a three person job (LOL) so Tim and Grandpa Jim have put Josh to work for them this week (after his basic school work is completed in the a.m.). Here Tim is hauling in the gravel from our pit across the road.

PhotobucketAfter he dumps his load, it’s Josh’s job to use the dozer to level and smooth it all out. Grandpa Jim said Josh is already a pretty good dozer hand doing in one try what it takes some guys a couple of tries to accomplish! YEA JOSH! With all this dirt out here, he’s had plenty of opportunity for practice in his spare time.

Here Grandpa is supervising Josh’s work and giving him a few tips as necessary.

After Josh smoothes everything out to a fairly level grade, Grandpa comes along to compact it with the roller. And, THAT is what’s causing the earth to quake around here the last few days.

You can’t believe how distracting that constant shaking is when you’re trying to get something done in the house (LOL). I’m not complaining though. It’ll be nice to have the new road to the back of our property finished and it’ll be REALLY NICE when the guys have a nice place to get in out of the weather to work on equipment. The building materials should be arriving sometime this month.

I guess this means there won’t be time to work on any house projects this spring!

My boys would love to be around all the machinery. I keep think of Tim the Tool Man Tailor — ah a ah ahh aaaa!!! What manly fun that must be!!!

Ok, when you say ‘shop’, I think ‘store’. I’m assuming you are probably not building a store, so I’m wondering what you mean by a shop?

LET IT SNOW

Being in the road building business, one thing we don’t have to worry about is being snowed in. As long as the weather isn’t so cold that we can’t start the equipment, you’ll find our men out and about plowing everyone’s driveways up and down our road and a few …

TODDLER AT WORK

Anyone who knows me, knows I’m a firm believer in giving kids meaningful “work” to do :). Charlie is “working” in this photo.   Fourth-generation construction business owner coming right up 🙂

COON “HUNTIN”

Early this morning our dog went crazy with barking and howling.  After the sun rose, we found out what all the commotion had been about as he pointed us toward a coon he had treed during the night! Mid morning the boys decided they needed to take care of the …
