DRIVEWAY

I don’t know what your boys do when they are bored for a few hours. My boys like to dig things up! Imagine my surprise when I woke up one morning a week or two ago and found them digging up our paved driveway! Below is what our driveway used to look like. Sharp right turn onto our property from the county road coming straight back to our house. Where the driveway was previously, you can see below, left a very small area for a flower bed right next to the house.. it was really not the right proportion to go with the size of the area and house, but it was what it was until a few weeks ago (LOL).

First, they ripped out the grass between our two big cottonwood trees. You might recall the new road they built awhile ago which goes back to the shop. It went off to the left of our existing driveway. Now it IS our driveway (LOL)… read further….

If you look closely, you can see the new road to the shop just beyond the trees.

Then they started tearing out the pavement from our existing driveway…

PhotobucketYou can see Josh in the loader below. Tim was using the backhoe to push the pavement into the loader then Josh hauled it off while Tim dug up some more pavement.Photobucket

This is looking at the torn up pavement from our patio. Just to give you an idea of how that part will all become some sort of landscape design and maybe a little more grass which will look nice from the patio.

Here is a look from another angle. The window on the lower right is my scrapbooking studio. That whole area will also end up with some sort of landscaping.

We didn’t want people trying to drive through this area now so we put up some big landscaping rocks to alert people that there’s a drop off now (LOL)!

Looking at the driveway from back where we park out cars out toward our hay field. Hopefully this gives you a good idea of where this area is located. It’s a good thing Tim and Josh dug up some more area for landscaping because I have found a bunch more flowers and shrubs I’d like to plant!

And. Finally. Here is a picture of the finished project. I LOVE the way you sort of make a nice curve into our driveway now from the county road instead of a sharp perpendicular turn. And, I also really like how you go between the two trees to drive up to the house or continue on the road to go out back to the shop.

PhotobucketWhere you see the rocks above will eventually (hopefully yet this summer) will be a large 8-10 waterfall which will drop water on both the north and south side so you can see it from the front our back driveway.. the front walkway and the patio at the back of our house. It will be right outside our bay window in the library which you’ll be able to see from the kitchen, dining, room, library, and my scrapbooking studio. Stay tuned. I’ll update as the project progresses.

WOW WOW
That is impressive. My husband would never try such a project. He does well with painting projects such as we did this weekend in the boys' room but not major construction. Just not up his alley!! On the other hand he is very handy to have around. He can fix any computer problem in a jiffy. Friends of mine even call him to fix computer issues for them. He is very, very good with computers. It is very handy to have around. Many times I have needed his assistance.
Have fun with your new project!
Weren't you going to be re-doing your kitchen? Has that started yet?
Deb

Looking forward to seeing it all complete. I find it hard to imagine what things will look like.

Will you have your pool up this summer again?

BALANCING ACT

I don’t think I ever mentioned that I was seeing a Physical Therapist last fall for some knee problems.  They said the knee problems could be related to having a weak ankle caused by so many bad ankle sprains.  They suggested balancing activities. Look at what a great husband I …

EXCAVATION 01.19.2011

This summer will mark our 20th year in our home.  WOW.  I have no idea where 20 years went, but I do know the time has finally come to do something about the backside of our house.  We’ve talked about remodeling/adding onto the kitchen for YEARS, but every year anothe year comes and goes …

Making tracks toward home!  The county road from the pit and hayfield entrance to our house is still covered in mud clumps even a couple days after we were out muddying up our rig for the Father’s Day car show yesterday.
