DIRT BIKE – HONDA

After earning enough money this summer to purchase a few things, Josh asked Tim to help him watch the newspaper and scour the internet for the first purchase – a HONDA XR100R dirt bike.

Did I post a picture of this dirt pile in our side yard which will eventually be a waterfall? I’m starting to think they had ulterior motives and perhaps it was really meant to be a place for Josh to climb hills with his dirt bike right outside the window so I would HAVE to see him! But that’s another story. Tim climbed the dirt pile first just to make sure it was going to be safe for Josh to climb….

and then he passed the bike back to Josh to give it a try.

PhotobucketTim stayed alongside him a few times to coax him along with appropriate instructions!Photobucket

And then they decided Josh should try it on his own.

That’s when I should have taken the camera and gone back in the house!

After a few weeks passed Josh asked if I would bring the camera out to take some pictures of him. Well. I couldn’t pass up that opportunity because regular blog readers know he does NOT like to have his picture taken and he usually puts something in front of his face (LOL)!. So I headed outside not sure what I was going to be taking pictures of and on the way out back he tells me he built a little jump for his bike. I was thinking he meant his PEDAL bike not his dirt bike.

Photobucket

It’s a small jump, but STILL he’s getting air and I’d rather have him safely on the ground.

PhotobucketThe only reason I’m ok with this whole dirt bike jumping dirt piles thing is because Josh always wears a helmet and he always watches to make sure Nathan is a safe distance away.

I haven’t been out back lately, but I’m guessing the jump is probably going to grow over time.

Can’t you just see the smile in Josh’s eyes?

Josh, We are SO PROUD of you! You’ve worked *very hard* this year to purchase your dirt bike. Patience and delayed gratification are hard lessons to learn, but we’ve seen you work through them this summer as you waited and waited to find a good buy on a used dirt bike even though you had the money to purchase a new one. Patience paid off when you were able to buy a few others things you wanted to get this summer and still leave a sizeable amount in savings as well. We can assure you those lessons will serve you well your entire life. Daddy says the above all sound like things I would say. I’m guessing he would have used words like this if he were writing this blog entry: **SWEET JUMP – try xyz to catch more air (but not when mom is watching)! **Let’s tweak the carburetor – try this and that on it the next time. **Thanks for your help this summer! **Let’s take the bike and go for a ride out in the hills. No matter the style of words we each use, you know we both love you and we’re very proud of you! Love, Mom & Dad

I know that you're a proper parent and you won't let him drive his dirt bike on neighborhood streets or property that isn't yours…. that's my beef with dirt bikes. We have folks around here w/.25-.45 acre lots and so they let their kids ride in the streets and in the lots the builder is getting ready for development. It makes me nervous because it puts my kids in danger to have unlicensed drivers on the road with no supervision. I have no problem with dirt bikes on one's own private property. Congrats to your son for saving for a goal

Renee,

Yea. We have about 15 acres where he can ride, make jumps, etc., and we don't have any neighbors on the gravel road between here and the hills where they go out to ride.

Great! Congratulations, Josh!!! My ds saved and bought his first bike when he was about 12, also a Honda. Yes, the jumps get higher and the bikes get bigger. He now has a screaming!!! 2 stroke KTM–250 maybe? I don't know, everyone for miles around knows when he is riding that thing.
Enjoy, Josh! I am sure you will, and you will always be proud that you saved for it.

Way to go, Josh! What a fun, BOY thing for him to be doing! Isn't it a blessing how you and Tim balance each other out? 😀

And love that last shot.

Love the photos…proud of Josh and proud of you and Tim and your parenting….I remember discussing raising boys back when he was a tiny baby….it would seem to me that you've raised him well….even though "they don't come that way". LOL

COON “HUNTIN”

Early this morning our dog went crazy with barking and howling.  After the sun rose, we found out what all the commotion had been about as he pointed us toward a coon he had treed during the night! Mid morning the boys decided they needed to take care of the …

SKYVIEW GAME

Tonight’s game against Skyview was quite intense right up until the very last second!  Each team was back and forth all night taking the lead and slipping behind by a few.  The last minute continued in this same way.  In the last 8 seconds we were behind by 1 point …
