Cottonwood leaves brush together and make a distinctive rustling or whispering sound in the eternal south wind of the prairie summer, a sound not unlike the sound of the sea at a distance. I’ll 2nd the above. I love to leave the window open at night and listen to the rustling of the Cottonwoods in our front yard. – ONLY after all of the cotton is gone and doing so won’t leave us sneezing all night (LOL).
