CORN MAIZE:
Today we went to the corn maize with some of our fellow homeschoolers.
I wasn’t going to take the time off from “school” to do this, however, it was SO NICE outside and it “did” tie in with our school when you consider that corn was one of the things that got the Pilgrims through the winter when they found the Indian’s corn. So, there you have it! A field trip that fit our Colonial studies. Here is a view of the corn maize from atop one of the two wooden bridges. If you look really close you can see the other bridge in the distance.

Nathan enjoyed leading one of his fellow preschoolers from co-op. She didn’t seem to mind and she even shared her Starbursts with Nathan! The two of them were SO CUTE walking hand in hand through the corn maize.

You can tell which one of the kids spent the most amount of time with me by the number of pictures I have of Nathan and don’t have of the other kids. Here are some more of Nathan in the corn maize. Here we are on one of the bridges trying to spot the other kids.
Here he is pointing out the direction he thinks we should go. Fortunately, I was able to convince him that we should really stay with our group because I had NO CLUE where we were at. I wasn’t paying any attention at all and was just enjoying the nice walk visiting with the other moms.Nathan decided to take a short cut through one of the rows of corn! I’m glad he doesn’t run off on me or I might never have found him (LOL)!After we found our way out of the maize, Nathan made his way to the play area. He was THRILLED to see a big “sand box” full of CORN! At home he and Josh are always wanting to haul corn with their trucks. They dump in piles all over the house. I can only stand the mess for a few days and then I make them pick it up. They played corn hauling this week and I just made them clean it up yesterday. Now I wish I would have taken a picture of it so you all could see how messy I will sometimes let my house get when the kids are really having fun playing with a project. Next time I’ll take a picture and blog that mess! Anyway… here is Nathan playing in the corn and he doesn’t even have to worry about how big a mess it makes. At home they have to pick up every last kernel when it’s time to put it away.We ran into Emily only ONE time during the entire hour we were in the maize. I’m not sure what she was “ohhhh’ing” about, but this is her typical “Oh, I get it” look (LOL).I didn’t get a SINGLE picture of Josh “in” the corn maize because he and his friends took off running ahead and I never saw them again until our group managed to find our way out. Josh found his way to the pedal go-carts and track which I’m sure was his favorite part of the trip. Josh and his friends were having a race! They really worked up a sweat and they were all very thirsty after they finished.
Emily and Nathan got in on the race, too.Emily bought a sucker that is shaped like corn on the cob. It’s not a good picture of her, but I wanted to show you the sucker because it’s SO CUTE.DISCLAIMER! I *DO* know that maze is not spelled maize, but that’s the name of the place. Corn Maize. So, I just used that spelling throughout this blog (LOL).

How funny! I’ve been missing these sorts of fall activities all week and finally blogged about it tonight. Alas, no Corn Maize, Hay Mazes, pumpkin patches, apple orchards or the like in W TX. We had to settle for a “pumpkin patch” set up at the local church.

Maybe next assignment. They sure didn’t have anything like this in AK either….there WAS a dairy in the San Antonio area that was fun to visit…..but I didn’t want to drive that far….LOL

Your photos bring back memories of MT.

DeEtta,
We almost didn’t do the corn maize, but now I’m glad we did! The weather was so nice and the kids had a great time.

There is a pumpkin patch in town and I should consider taking them to that! It would be fun, too. I did all of these FUN things when the girls were younger, but I need to remember to do them now with the boys, too.

YES….exactly…that is what I’m doing the last couple of years. Making a conscious effort to do those young family things again….it’s so easy to forget that the little ones either didn’t do it or were to young to remember doing it when we did things 10 years ago. LOL

It’s like having a “second childhood” I guess.

BTW – keep posting all the fall scenery pictures you can. I’m missing FOUR SEASONS in the worst way. I missed it in AK too but we did have season changes….we are still at 88* around here. I’m seriously putting 4 seasons on my prayer list for our next assignment. LOL

I’ll keep posting our fall pictures IF we ever have any more fall pictures. It’s SNOWING now and this time the ground is completely covered in white. I’m heading out to shake the snow off from our little tree before I go to bed.
Cynthia

The corn maize looks SO fun! What a great day out. The corn sucker is so funny. Good thing you got in this trip before the snow.

I might make an indoor corn “sand box” for the kids this winter. We have usually used rice, various beans or….sand. I think they’d love to use their trucks and little animals and such in a corn box. ever really thought of using corn!

LITTLE BITES OF HAPPINESS

Nathan’s friend, Noah, came over to hang out today and enjoy one last day of Christmas break before school resumes for both of them tomorrow. On the way home from picking him up at “the bridge,” I asked if the boys wanted some oatmeal for breakfast, but no. They wanted …

COON “HUNTIN”

Early this morning our dog went crazy with barking and howling.  After the sun rose, we found out what all the commotion had been about as he pointed us toward a coon he had treed during the night! Mid morning the boys decided they needed to take care of the …

DUCK PREP

I’m not sure what’s going on with these duck feathers on my dining room table, but the placemat has been moved over to make room for them! And the Egg Nog has been pushed aside to make room for marinating the duck meat!!    I’m not much for animals, dead …
