CALGARY ZOO

Last year when we were visiting Glacier National Park, I wanted to visit The Calgary Zoo since we were so close. However, we just couldn’t convince the kids it would be worth another 2-3 hours of driving to get there. We decided we would fit it in this year since we were already going to be there to pick up Michaela. This time we decided it would be a nice way to walk around and stretch awhile before hopping back in the car for a long ride home.

Besuch im Zoo von Calgary: Schon lange wollte Cindy den Kindern den Zoo zeigen. Es ist ein riesen Gelaende und definitiv einen Besuch wert.

PhotobucketFirst things first. Everyone grabbed a map and oriented themselves to the zoo and all of the attractions.

Since it had been seven years since Michaela had been with us, we thought it would be nice to have something to do for a few hours before spending the better part of two days traveling home. It worked out very well. Walking around the zoo gave Nathan a chance to warm up to Michaela – not that it would take him long because he’s quite the people person – and it gave Em and Michaela a chance to get reacquainted as well.

PhotobucketTalking to Nathan will give Michaela a LOT of opportunity to work on her vocabulary – trying to figure out what he’s saying, trying to explain things to him that she’s trying to say, etc. As we were walking around the zoo, he pulled me aside and asked if she was going home with us. I told him yes. And, he said “good because I like her.” He even said he remembered her (LOL). He obviously can’t remember her since he was only a few weeks old when he left, but he’s heard us talk about her and he has seen the pictures so in his mind he remembers her.

PhotobucketWe didn’t stop to see any of the animals shows or lectures, but we managed to get around to every single exhibit in about four hours. I don’t remember what kind of bear is shown above, but he was quite strange looking to us.

Below, the boys spent a lot of time looking at the caribou and of course they asked me to take a ton of pictures of its horns.

and a Tater Bear entering his cave! I have no time for a creative Tater Bear description, but those who read my Tater Shark description from last winter can use their creative imagination as to the similarities of a Black Bear (or any other type bear your imagination would like to compare) and a Tater Bear.

This Tater Bear is quite active coming and going through the cave and all its tunnels and secret passageways.

This Tater Bear seems quite interested in taking pictures of everyone staring at him!

Isn’t this THE SWEETEST bear you’ve ever seen? “Who me.?”

Photobucket

That’s quite a nice pose for a rambunctious Tater Bear.

And… another land animal… I mean Josh taking a rest on the park bench wishing our texting plan extended into Canada, I’m sure.

And look what we have here. The Tater Bear sharing his pictures with Emily and Michaela. Such a nice Tater Bear.

Emily and Michaela picking right up where they left off seven years ago. We’ve all decided that it seems like she has only been gone on a vacation for a short length of time and that seven years couldn’t possibly have passed since we last saw her.

Wir sind uns alle sicher, dass es nicht sein kann, dass wir uns sechs Jahre lang nicht gesehen haben. Es kommt uns eher so vor als wenn ich ein paar Wochen im Urlaub war und nun zurueck bin.

If you ever find yourself in Calgary, you may want to check out the Calgary Atractions website where you’ll find a variety of discount coupons. I printed coupons for 25% off before we left for Calgary. Every little bit of savings certainly helps the budget!

I thought I had commented on this post before but I guess I am imagining things (or read a few of the same things on FB or SHS? LOL)! Anyway, fun, fun, fun pictures. Looks like a nice place to visit.

Jodi

Really nice pics! It might be a great camera 😉 And it's also nice to see how much fun Michaela has with you! I think we'll see us soon in Germany! Wish you a great time in Europe. Greetings from Germany, Lara

The Lord blessed you with an amazing eye for photography, Cynthia!

This post featured pics that carefully highlight relationships and also object photos that could hang on the wall of an art gallery.

Thank you for sharing your gift with us!

MUSEE RODIN

One of the many things on my Paris “hope to see” list was the Musee Rodin.  Because we had a mile-long list of things to see today and because I was the only one with this on their must-see list, we opted to make this a very quick stop (as in probably only …

BIKING THROUGH PARIS

If I don’t already sound like a broken record when I say I researched all of the xyz options for abc before we booked our trip (or chose this crockpot or picked that curriculum, etc), just stick around awhile and I’m sure you’ll eventually come to that conclusion (LOL) since …

A.M. VISIT TO EIFFEL TOWER

I’m sure everyone would have preferred to sleep in a little longer today (9/26), but again, trying to avoid jet lag I scheduled us to be up and out of the hotel by 7:00 a.m. I actually wanted to leave at 6:30 but Michaela thought that was way too early …
