BATHROOM UPDATE – TH 13 post

Yesterday I had a TON of errands to do in town. I wasn’t shopping for the bathroom, but I FINALLY ran across a garbage can, soap dispenser, toilet paper holder, etc., that all match. They are white porcelain with brushed nickel trim. It’s *PERFECT* and the best part is they were all on clearance – over 50% off! Most of you know me will know that I rarely buy anything that isn’t on sale. I also found some things for the dining room which I’ll show you in another post.

For now. Here are the new things for the bathroom. You can also see the new flooring if you look closely enough. I didn’t take a closeup of the garbage can, but you can see the brushed nickel trim on the bottom of it. I as SHOCKED at how expensive bathroom garbage cans have gotten since the last time I purchased one. Well. Actually, the last one I bought was probably 16 years ago and it was a white plastic rubbermaid one (LOL). I guess I’ve never really purchased an entire bathroom ensemble before…. probably because they cost too much.

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingNot bad for clearance, huh? It matches everything so perfectly which you’ll see after we get around to hanging up the curtain rods, towel bars, etc. hopefully this weekend. I like the detail in the brushed nickel trim.

I didn’t buy the cup that matches since we don’t drink the water from the faucets and I didn’t buy the toothbrush holder either since we keep them hidden away out of sight (LOL). Did I mention these were all on clearance (LOL)! For my SHS blogging friends – maybe Lisa would let this count for the How Low Can You Go challenge? I don’t keep track of our grocery budget, but I sure do keep track of our home repair budget!

We bought the faucets awhile ago at either Lowe’s or Home Depot. I’m not sure which. They weren’t on sale so we did sort of splurge on them. We’ve been working on this bathroom remodel project since January and prior to that we bought the sink/cabinet more than a year ago. So.. it’s a little bit of a challenge to find things that all go together when they are purchased apart from each other. I was really excited that the brushed nickel finish on the things I bought at Target matched the brushed nickel finish on the faucet from the hardware store.

And, I love how the water comes out of the spout! I LOVE cleaning the sink just so I can watch and listen to the water coming out. I guess it doesn’t take much to entertain me, huh?

Here’s a shot of the new sink cabinet installed and WORKING! The round hole at the top of the picture is where the new light bar will go after I ever find a mirror! The big hole is where the old medicine cabinet used to be. Of course, we can’t put another one there now because we moved everything over to the right a little bit – remember the plumbing posts from awhile back (LOL)? Yep…. Tim had to move all of the plumbing over “just a tad bit” in order to accomodate the new sink cabinet. The little hole to the left of the sink is where Tim will eventually wire the switch for the light above the sink and another outlet. I’m still not sure about the lamp. We’ll see after I get the mirror and light up. I like the lamp because it has a big seashell on it and we plan to continue with a few seashell things from the previous bathroom.

Here is a closeup of the sink cabinet.

We still can’t ues the tub or shower, but we are pretty close to the top of the list for the refinisher. The materials have been ordered and I think he’ll come sometime before the end of the month! YIPPEE! This is what we still have to do in the bathroom:
1. Tub/shower walls refinished
2. Find and install a mirror above the sink
3. Install the light above the sink
4. Move the lightswitch for the ceiling light over about an inch so the ceramic cover will fit (dh doesn’t know about this project yet…. sigh……)
5. While he’s at it I think he should replace the outlet thingies so they are all white instead of beige, don’t you? It doesn’t really look that great having the nice white porcelain cover with an old beige plug in/switch, kwim? We’ll see what he says….
6. Paint and put up the floorboard trim
7. Prime and paint the magazine holder white to match all of the other white things. We already primed/painted the heater cover so it is white and not the greyish color that it used to be. Actually, “we” didn’t do it. Grandma Bonnie did it… more about her in another post.
8. Hang up the curtain rods
9. Iron and attach curtain rings/hooks and hang the curtains
10. Paint the glaze/darker accent color on the walls
11. Hang up the shower curtain
12. Hang up the towel bar and hooks
13. Hang up the springy rod things inside the tub area for our towels.
Ok.. I’ll just stop there since I am trying to make this a Thursday 13 post! I can’t believe we’re this close to being done! It might seem like a long list to you, the reader, but trust me… we’ve come so far that I’m just happy to have few enough things that need to be that we could make a list.. Oh I just remember one more thing:
14. Paint the trim and corner pieces for the mirrored closet doors… after
15. Reattaching the mirrored doors at the floor.
Well.. I better get back to work here! Any bets on whether or not we can finish this list by the end of the month? That’s our goal.

Hah, we looked for inexpensive when we chose our stuff too.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your cabinet. If we’d cemented this deal earlier, we would have chosen something like that for our master bath. Very nice!

For all the nice stuff the builder did in this house, we were surprised he put in regular switches instead of rockers. We’d replaced all in our old house with rockers, but we’re not spending the $$ or time here to do them anytime soon.

Looking good! I love the faucet! The faucets for the girls’ sinks look sort of similar – but theirs are like old-fashioned water pumps with a center handle. They cannot wait. Brooke is just disappointed that you don’t have to pump it for the water to come out. Bummed about modern conveniences – how’s that for a weird kid?

I do love your cabinet, too! It’s really beautiful!

I’ll count it! You did a great job, much better than I could ever do. I just can’t get over how you collected everything over a long period of time and everything looks sooo nice. What a great job!

SILVERWARE

This year I’m participating in the Declutter 365 project.  They started in the kitchen and since my kitchen is fairly new, I don’t have a whole lot of actual “decluttering” to do, but I do have a few organizational things I haven’t gotten to so I’m working on those for …
