I am thinking about doing some “home” projects too. I would like many of them completed by Christmas but that might be wishful thinking. I just spoke with my sister today and she is in the middle of a room addition. She is having problems with her contractor. I told her that in the end she will be thankful for all that she has gone through to get the new room! 🙂
BATHROOM – BEFORE THE REMODEL DAY 151 of P365

One rainy day we got this hair brained idea to remodel the bathroom. This was back in March (LOL). It’s now the end of July and I’d say we’re not even quite 1/2 way done with this project. I was going to wait and post about it when it is complete showing start to finish all in one blog entry, but I feel sorry for LIZ and her ongoing bathroom project. I didn’t want her to feel all alone so I’m going to post our bathroom saga now.
Emily took these pictures for me since Tim decided to start this project while I was gone to town one day. The picture below is for Kristine! She had the nerve to mention that I have non-use-for-decoration-only towels in our bathroom on her blog recently so it’s only fitting that I mention here now that I’m talking about our bathroom. See, I really DID have my good towels out! We *never* used those towels. Every once in awhile I would take them down to dust them off, but that was it… occasionally I would notice that a guest had used them and then, of course, I would wash them. But, the towels we use for everyday were on another towel bar which you can’t see in any of these pictures. I’m so glad Emily took this picture even if it isn’t a close up one and even though they are obviously a little off centered and messed up – I’m sure they were bumped many times before I came home to rescue them! All sorts of things coming down around these towels by the time the pictures were taken.
I’m so glad Emily took the above picture! I didn’t even realize I had it until I started going through these pictures. You can’t really see this, but the middle one has these little tassles and braid thing. They aren’t quite as fancy as the towels that Kristine has up in HER bathroom. And. We don’t have any champaign. Not sure what I’ll find to put up after our remodel is done, but I’ll be sure to post a picture.
Sorry for the poor lighting which makes it hard to see the true color of the wallpaper. It is not yellow. It’s a very bright white with tan and black stripes. This room was one of the first ones we redecorated when we moved here 16 years ago this summer. At that time, we were only painting and wallpapering. Since then we’ve gone back through other rooms of the house to change light fixtures, flooring, and other things. The black marble sink/shower walls were something still here from years ago when my mom and dad remodeled the house back in the 70s?
You can’t see the border very good, but it’s a border of birds you would find near the ocean. The rest of our house is rustic so we were trying to do something to the bathroom to make it a little more like the rest of the house without having to completely redo the shower walls, sink, etc. at that time. NOW we are taking *EVERYTHING* out and starting over. I almost couldn’t post this picture because the toilet lid is up and I’m sure I’ll hear about it from Kristine (LOL)! See her blog entry “What’s Up?” But, I HAD to post this picture because it’s the only one that shows any of the border.
And lastly. The floor. Commercial grade carpet which was taken up and will be replaced with linoleum. The bathroom floor is lower than the kitchen floor by – not sure how much? The width of a piece of plywood I guess because that’s what dh is using to put in a new subfloor now so that the floor will be level with the kitchen floor.
So, back to the rainy day project. We thought it would only take a few days and like most projects intead of days is taking MONTHS! Read on to see why. And, the rain quit which sent Tim to work (LOL)! Now we do what we can when we have a few minutes here and there. I need to schedule a BBQ or picnic out here sometime in the next month or two… that’ll move this project a little higher up the list (LOL). Actually, Tim would work on it more but the kids and I want to go camping, boating, geocaching, etc… so the project waits while we do all of these fun things while the weather is nice.
