“B” IS HOME AND RECUPERATING

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket We left at 7:00 this morning to take “B” to the oral surgeon to have her wisdom teeth removed. By 8:00 they had her back in the room and were giving her the IV. She was most worried about that part of the procedure. The doctor was telling me about a storm that’s on the way with predicted high winds and hail. I was telling him that I should go home and clean out the garage so I could make room to put our YUKON in the garage and Amanda found that quite funny. She pretty much just laughed then until she fell asleep and I don’t think she connected WHY I was saying I should clean out the garage. When she woke up she asked again WHY I was going to clean the garage, today of all days (LOL). Of course, I’m not going to do that. I was just making conversation with the dr about this storm that might be headed our way.

The procedure only took about 45 minutes. The waking up, however, took well over an hour and a half. “B” kept asking if it was over. I would reassure her that it was, rub her head and arm, and then she’d fall back to sleep. When she’d wake up again she’d ask me the same thing. Of course, she doesn’t remember any of this now. The doctor said everything went very well, however, they were quite impacted and he said it was an involved procedure. OUCH.

After she finally woke up enough to go home, we headed right for DQ for some chocolate ice cream. Then, to the pharmacy to get her some pain meds and anitbiotic. After that she decided she wanted some mashed potatoes so we went across the street to Kentucky Fried Chicken to get a side dish of those. Then, we headed home and put her to bed on the couch. She’s now resting comfortably. I have to leave later to take Emily to a choir concert so grandma Jan is coming up to sit with Amanda while I take Emily to town. Then Tim will be home to take care of her after my mom has to leave for town. After her friend, Libby, gets off from work she’s coming out to stay with her tonight. She’ll be well taken care of and pampered for the next several days.

I’m SO glad that’s over. I just can’t imagine how difficult it would be for a parent to see a child seriously ill or injured in and in the hospital. When Amanda was waking up you could see that there was NO ONE HOME so to speak. She was white as a ghost and quite pasty looking. She talked jibberish. Her mouth was dry and she kept asking for water. The nurse dipped some gause in water and used a tweezer to put it in her mouth to moisten her tongue and cheeks. That whole process reminded me of the last days my grandma was in the hospital and so thirsty. Anyway… all of those things coupled with being in a warm, antisepctic smelling room made me nearly pass out.

Now, I’m off to take a nap before I have to head out again. Grandma & Grandpa B took the boys with them today so it’s nice and quiet around here this afternoon. It’s raining and overcast outside. PERFECT napping weather! Of course, my family will tell you that ANY weather is “perfect” napping weather for me.

Thanks for the prayers for B today and over the next few days as she recuperates! Hopefully, she’ll only be under the weather a few days. We have a graduation to finish planning! We can’t be under the weather for too long.

Lee,

THANKS for the prayers! I was just going to email you that we’re back home, but I saw you posted a note here so I won’t do that now.

Oh my goodness. I’m having terrible flashbacks of being 17 and having chipmunk cheeks because of my wisdom tooth removal! I’m praying her…~Yvonne

Oh my . .. I remember gettng my wisdome teeth out. I was so nauceous afterwards . . . praying she heals quick!

Wow! Cynthia, that was a long process (and lengthy recovery time). It is SO hard to see your children sick. When Daniel (9) had his appendix out, last year, it was so sad to see him come out of surgery.

I’m glad shes’s going to be pampered and cared for. She has a good family and sweet friends!

Oh, Cynthia, did you post on SHS? I didn’t realize she was having that done today. Poor dear. I have to bring Bessie in for a consult as her wisdom teeth are coming in at the ripe old age of 14! I do not look forward to that.

Hope Amanda feels better quick.

Poor Amanda, But you know, she looks pretty good! When I had mine out (in hospital) my face looked like a hamster afterwards!

Tell her she still looks very pretty!

Dorothy

Ugh, poor girl! It brings back horrid memories of mine being removed, the throwing up, the dry socket . . . It took me 20 years before I could stomach the smell of cloves again (they used clove oil for the dry socket).

I too hope she feels better very soon. I hadn’t realised you had this coming up, guess I am behind on blogs and email loops!

Hope she is feeling better. I had mine out the summer after I graduated HS. I had all 4 out and they were all impacted. NOT FUN! I can remember the pain, chimpmunk cheeks and dry socket in a couple of them. Glad to see she has a good friend there to help her through this time.
