Finally, the Mitford Series by Jan Karon has made it to the top of my list of books to read. I’ve read reviews about it from several ladies on the SHS loop and fellow bloggers. This series was a PERFECT fit for my incredibly busy fall season because the chapters are broken up into short little sections throughout. Some sections are only a page or two while others are as short as just a couple of sentences. Since I only have short little 2-5 minute lengths of time for personal “fun” reading here and there these days, the short little segments that make up each chapter were GREAT! That has allowed me to actually make some progress in not only a single book, but also through a series. I’ll probably finish this whole series by Thanksgiving by just reading 2-5 minutes here and there.The first book in the series, At Home in Mitford, starts out with an introduction of the main character, Father Tim – a local minister as well as:

Barnabas – a stray dog who ends up living at the rectory and responds to scripture being read.Emma – Father Tim’s secretary who has to hide her sweet snacks in her drawer to they don’t tempt Father Tim who is a diabetic.Miss Sadie (and her sister Louella) who live at Fernbank – a large estate in Mitford.Cynthia – his new neighbor from the other side of the hedge.Dooley – a young boy from “the Creek” who Father Tim takes into his home.and many more…. in fact, an entire town of characters – the barber, the vet, the baker, the editor of the newspaper, the doctor, owner of the local restaurant The Grill, etc. If you’d like to read the first chapter of this book online, click the link for Mitford Series above which is the main website for the author. I thoroughly enjoyed this very easy reading book. It’s a journey through the everyday joys and trials of life. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Thanks to our family friend who the kids call Grandma Bonnie loaning me the entire series, I have all of the books right here on my shelf. How convenient is that! Thanks, Grandma Bonnie!
