HOW MANY ROUTES CAN YOU TAKE TO GET TO FLORIDA?

Vacations - 2007

We went back to the airport in plenty of time to anticipate anymore problems. We were flagged for security so it did take us awhile to get through the gate area. Here Tim and Josh are looking out the window watching for our plane to arrive. There had been a “technical” problem with our plane that was supposed to have left that a.m. The part was brought in on the afternoon flight and was supposed to take only about 20 minutes to repair and then we were on our way….. over 8 hours late….

After we *FINALLY* managed to get everyone on a plane, the problems didn’t end there. It was almost comical….. well… I think Emily was laughing at either her book or me taking her picture. I doubt she was finding our predicament very funny.

My mom & dad and Amanda ended up flying with my brother. They were *supposed* to get in to FL at 5:00 p.m. which we thought would work well. They could get one of the rental cards, find the condo, and get some other things we needed to take care of upon our arrival. Well, before the last batch of us left town, we found out that those 4 didn’t leave for several hours after they were supposed to because of a snowstorm in SLC. By the time they were cleared to take off and landed in SLC, they had missed their connecting flight and were then doomed to arrive in FL even later than the rest of us who didn’t leave until mid afternoon. So much for that plan of getting them all out of here earlier in the a.m.

Above and below… Amanda staying in touch…. I think she’s asking if we’re kidding or not…..

The two friends who ended up going through Denver arrived in FL first, but they had to wait for the rest of us because we had all of the condo and rental car information.

The last group of us to leave STILL had to endure quite a mess with the luggage. I can not understand why the airlines don’t have people on the front line who are trained in handling changes. I no longer have any faith in the so-called “security measures” which say that luggage will travel with you. If you can believe this, the man who rebooked us only booked the luggage for 3 people in our group to MINN…but they booked the people all the way to FL… in first class no less…. Again, so much for new security measures. Oh… and we were FLAGGED for additonal security and had to be hand searched. With ALL of those people checking everything because of our flagged status don’t you find it odd that someone along the line didn’t catch that mixup? And, then get this…. the rest of the 5 of us were only booked seats to MINN, but our luggage was booked all the way to FL? I’m fairly certain that should be a problem for some security measure, wouldn’t you think? They did put us on the standby status and we did get on the plane… maybe thanks to being flagged and they didn’t want to have to go find all of our luggage and take it off from the plane? I don’t know, but I am none too impressed with NWA and how they handled the entire situation. Here is our luggage…. it’s a LOT of luggage and we were even missing quite a few bags.If I wasn’t so busy homeschooling and taking care of our own business I would be on a mission to overhaul the airlines (LOL)…. or maybe I would like to tackle Belize instead… at least I wouldn’t have to suffer headaches from the fuel fumes one has to endure while waiting in line to check in at the airport terminal.

Here Emily is occupying Nathan…

It didn’t matter to him that our plane was delayed… he was already on vacation and enjoying himself! Three year olds have very few worries (LOL)!

Taking the tram to get our luggage…. where we would find out that not all of our luggage made it.
Taking the shuttle to get our rental vans.

Grandpa and Nathan going to take a look at our rental vans to make sure all of our luggage would fit!

So… we did all eventually make it. Unfortunately, I missed meeting my cybertwin, Emily, because of all of these mix ups and our first day at Disney World had a delayed start because we didn’t get to the condo until 3:00 a.m….. we’d been up over 24 hours at that point so we HAD to sleep in for a little while the next day. Poor Nathan was SO TIRED he couldn’t even stay awake long enough for me to make his bed. He just fell asleep right on the floor.

Ugh, what a MESS with security, losing luggage, etc. So very frustrating . . .

If you ask me, Nathan’s smiling because he’s almost done with that bag of M&Ms and so far, Mom hasn’t taken any yet! (snicker)

Kristine,

And you “say” you don’t remember much (LOL)! That is TOO FUNNY that you remember my M&M story from last summer… or was that 2 summers ago now?

LUGGAGE – DAY 62 of PROJECT 365

WHEW! This is definitely the last of our vacation pictures! The night before you arrive back in port, you leave all of your luggage out in the hallway. During the night the porters come through and deliver it *here* (LOL) and you have to dig through the piles of luggage …
