I’m going to put today’s P365 picture a little further down in the page so you can have FAIR WARNING what’s coming. If you continue to scroll down the page you are going to see B’s wisdom teeth which were pulled today.
I can’t help but wonder WHY they are called “wisdom teeth.” So, I *had* to do a little research which I’m sure won’t come as any surprise to most of the people who read my blog.
The English words, “wisdom teeth,’ are drived from the Latin dens sapientiae which means wise man. Evidently, the general thought is that wisdom teeth often appear much later than the other teeth at an age when people are supposedly “wiser” than they were when their childhood teeth erupted. They usually arrive between the ages of 17 and 24 and are considered 3rd molars. The Turkish language refers to them as the 20th teeth since they usually arrive when a person is around 20 years old. Korean’s call them “love teeth” because young people get them about the same time they tend to fall in love. The Japanese call them Oyashirazu which translated means “unknown to the parents” from the idea that they erupt after a child has moved away from home. My own wisdom teeth arrived after I was married and my parents were fortunate to not have to pay for the removal of mine (LOL)!
The latter two descriptions held true for my own wisdom teeth, but not for our daughter. Her wisdom teeth seem to have arrived a little EARLY! If you want to see what they look like – here they are. No, there were not five teeth. They were all impacted and it appears that they had to break one of them to get it out of the bone so you’ll see five parts in the picture if you look closely enough which I wouldn’t really recommend!
