Have you ever thought much about how nicknames come to be? I often wonder how people get their nicknames when I hear them called by something other than their real name. Some of you may (or may not) have noticed that I’ve made some changes to our side bar. I’ve changed the headings of our pictures to reflect our nicknames. I thought it only fitting to give a little history about how we got those nicknames as well.
Dadio. One of the kids put this on Tim’s cell phone and it seems appropriate to use it as the sidebar heading as well. Whenever he calls my cell phone his picture comes up with the name Dadio.
Multi Tasking Mommy (MTM). Again, one of the kids was messing around with my cell phone and they entered that as the ID and now it has made it’s way to my blog bio.
Can you believe that *ONE* person is responsible for all of our kids’ nicknames? That would be Amanda’s friend, Libby.
“B” – Amanda’s nickname started a long time ago when she first wen to youth group. Evidently, EVERYONE has a nickname at youth group. The kids called her by our last name for awhile and then just shortened it to “B.” It stuck and now she’s “B”!
Al – Libby and Amanda’s other friend decided Emily needed a nickname. So, they tried out several on her. None of them stuck. One day they asked her about her middle name which is Alison. So, they shorted it up and now call her Al.
Shwa – we don’t even know how to spell this for sure (LOL). This comes from Libby and “B” getting tired of saying ALL THREE syllables (LOL) when calling out to Joshua. They would say Jo/shua as in two syllables intead of saying out Jo/sh/ua as in three syllables. So it’s pronounced /sh/ as in shore and /wa/ as in water. If someone thinks there is a better way to spell this, let me know (LOL).
Tater – It took several stages to get to this nickname. First, he had this little John Deere Gator that he liked to play with. It’s a little tractor that he rides on. We used to call him Nater Gater.. one thing led to another and now his nickname is called Tater.. and sometimes we shorten it to Tate. Nathan is SO FUNNY! Now he goes around naming things and we have no idea why, but he calls his line of trucks the P.U.C.
My friend, Karen, just posted on her blog about nicknaming their 2 week old baby which reminded me that I started this blog entry months ago. Now is as good a time as any to finish it up and publish it.

Well, you know how I feel about nicknames… Can’t call my kids by their real names. In fact, many people don’t know George’s real name!
Hmmm… maybe some day I’ll post the nickname stories…
We just saw the cutest little John Deere boots today. They were cowboy boots, with brown leather shoe parts and yellow and green uppers. I told Trev he should ask for them for his bday!
Kristine,
The boots sound ADORABLE! I may have to go look for some for our ds. Where did you see them? What type of store?
I had wondered about you nicknames, now I know!
