PERSEIDS REPORT

Josh’s cousin, Zach, wanted to stay the night at our house when he found out we were getting up in the middle of the night to watch the meteor shower. I was given STRICT instructions to NOT wake up Amanda this time – she is FINISHED with “school.” (LOL). I actually think it had more to do wtih having to get up and go to her work. Emily also had many things to do the next day so I didn’t wake her up either. I haven’t started waking Nathan up in the middle of the night yet, but his day is coming (LOL)! And, Tim was gone. He doesn’t usually get up with us either since someone has to go to work. MY job is to get up in the middle of the night and take the kids outside to study astronomy! It sure beats reading about meteors from a dry textbook!
Here are Zach and Josh getting ready to go outside. at 2:30 a.m.

We pulled a bench over to the middle of the driveway and positioned it just right so the security light across the road wasn’t in our eyes.

Zach took a picture of Josh and I cuddled up in our sleeping bags. It was a little chilly out and the wind was blowly lightly.

We saw a TON of meteors. We saw quite a few slow moving ones that were grazing by pretty low and then we saw a BUNCH of the quick little ones further up in the sky. It was a GORGEOUS night. When we went to bed I wasn’t so sure we’d be seeing anything since it was so smokey and cloudy.
I always get up first to go check out the sky and make sure it’s worth waking the kids up. Tonight was DEFINITELY worth it! The clouds had moved on by the time I got up so we had a very clear sky.
