FARM BOY

If you’ve read our blog very long you know that we don’t live on a farm. We do have some hay ground that we lease out, but we don’t do anything with it ourselves. So, the haystack in the picture above is not ours.
One day a month or so ago while Josh was at my mom’s house she noticed this elderly neighbor (I’m guessing he’s at least 90 or so) out trying to stack this hay. He was trying to help his grandkids with some of their work, but he could barely do it himself. It must have been 110 that day. It was hot and smokey and these hay bales are *heavy*! She sent Josh out to give him a hand.

First he had to show Josh what to do since he’s never stacked hay before and there is a pattern to it.

Then they worked together placing a few hay bales.

Then, the neighbor was able to rest while supervising Josh unloading and stacking the pickup load of hay.

I’m sure glad Josh happened to be at my mom’s that day so he could go out and lend a hand. It was WAY TOO HOT for this elderly man to be out there doing that type of extremely physical work. Notice the cane. Now look back up to the top picture and notice how far up the stack Josh is standing. I’m not even sure the elderly neighbor could have gotten up there, cane and all.
I understand he just wanted to help his grandkids, but this was too much work for him! I bet they appreciated the job being done and I’m glad Josh was able to help. It’s good for him to learn new things!

Oh my – haying IS hard work – I know of what I speak. 🙂 Although, growing up we did loose hay. My younger sister & I had to run around in the back of the old dump truck we used (Black Beauty no less)to pack it all in. Once we started baling it, we had to help lift & stack. Hard work & never very pleasant. I’m so amazed at how hard a worker your son is. I’m thinking of sending my oldest out for you to train for me or at least help out Josh! 🙂

Kathy,
Yes, Josh helped with a cheerful attitude. He really does have a servant’s heart and he LIKES to work! The more “real” the work the more meaningful to him. He doesn’t really like to do “twaddle” type things that have no meaning to him… like writing lines up lines of things for no reason (LOL)!

Lisa,
Yep.. hard work and it makes you SO ITCHY! He had to take some Benadryl afterwards since he was immediately sneezing and had red watering eyes…. definitely allergic to hay.

Oh and Lisa.. sure send your son on over! For some reason my kids like to work (LOL). For Josh.. ANYTHING outside work related is a LOT MORE fun then staying in the house with me doing BOOKWORK!

What a great opportunity and I’m so proud that he helped that older gentleman! Jon would love this kind of life, although it’d probably kill him.LOL

I love how hard your boys work and they seem to love it- especiallhy Josh
. How neat too that they were able to hang with their grandpa too!

COON “HUNTIN”

Early this morning our dog went crazy with barking and howling.  After the sun rose, we found out what all the commotion had been about as he pointed us toward a coon he had treed during the night! Mid morning the boys decided they needed to take care of the …

SKYVIEW GAME

Tonight’s game against Skyview was quite intense right up until the very last second!  Each team was back and forth all night taking the lead and slipping behind by a few.  The last minute continued in this same way.  In the last 8 seconds we were behind by 1 point …
