BATHROOM UPDATE – NOTICEABLE PROGRESS!

Can you believe we’re actually at the point of having noticeable progress in several areas? WHOO HOO! We finished up everything around the window and toilet area this weekend! Here is a view from standing back at the far end of the bathroom.

Here is a closeup of the tiebacks! One nice thing about taking over a year to do a remodel project is you have PLENTY of time to shop for everything on clearance! These tiebacks were only $4.00 each (regularly $20 something each) at the fabric store. They actually have 4 double strands which is kind of hard to tell in this picture. The curtains were SO EXPENSIVE! They were normally $50 a piece. NO WAY on earth would I EVER pay that much for them. I waited until I had a 20% off coupon for Linens and Things. Fortunately, over Labor Day weekend they had a 20% off coupon that was good for your entire purchase so I was able to get EVERYTHING all at one time (even stuff for the dining room which you’ll see in a future post here shortly). Anyway.. 20% off plus an additional 10% off something or other (off the entire purchase in a certain department) and on top of that they were buy one get one 50% off…. ALL of those % offs accumulated and made the curtains way less expensive than if I would have just gotten them each one at a time with a single 20% off coupon. I’ll have to remember that Linens & Things does this type of sale on Labor Day!

The woven shade was I think $5.00 from Target… It was about 75% off from what I remember.

The heater vents $0 because we used what we already had and spray painted them! WHOO HOO! It’s amazing what a coat of paint will do for something. Notice the trim is also up.. not nailed down yet, but it is cut and ready to nail…

These curtain rods were also purchased at Target and they were 50%, but now I don’t remember how much there were originally. I just know they were 50% off because I still had the box for the rings which are in the next picture. Those are glass balls on the ends of these rods. Tim hung the rod that goes over the tub/shower which is the one on the right, but I didn’t iron the curtains for that area yet. I’ll wait on that until after the tub repairman comes this week.

This is the guest towel which is hanging by the sink. Kristine, YES you can use these towels. You’ll probably even recognize that these are the decorative hand towels from the old bathroom.

I bought new decorative ones which are rolled up and in the basket above the toilet.

This is the picture that is hanging above the toilet. It’s a drawing that a distant cousin of Tim’s did years ago.

I should have take a picture of the frame. Maybe you can see it in the first picture above? Anyway, it’s a rusted gold frame which coordinates nicely with the lamp. Here’s a close up of the lamp which was on clearance at one of the fabric stores. Tim’s mom is going to make a cord sleeve for the lamp out of muslin which will match the basket. I think I’ll also have her make one to go around the pipes down by the toilet to finish off the area that has a hole in the linoleum going under the floor.

And, the lamp/picture frame coordinate nicely with the knobs on the vanity. Those are the only rustic goldish looking things in the bathroom. Everything else is the brushed nickel. I didn’t want *everything* to match you know! I’m trying to have a little variety from my normal which is everything having to be just so. Antique soap dish sitting beside the lamp.

Liz, if you’re reading this entry. How is your bathroom coming? Are you almost done? I’m caught up reading your blog and didn’t see any mention of how your bathroom is moving along.

If you’re keeping track of our bathroom to do list from the previous entry a couple of days ago you’ll see that we got a LOT of things done this weekend! I hope to have it 100% done by next weekend, but that all depends on the tub repairman’s schedule. So, we’ll see.

Wow, Cindy, that all looks so nice. What an elegant bathroom! Great job to all the workers and the shoppers. You sure got some great bargains.

Wow, just caught up on the blog. I knew all that you were doing- I just haven’t seen it yet. Looks great! How nice to have it (almost) all done, now that co-op is back in session.

What’s the next project? LOL!

The bathroom looks gorgeous! You’ve done a wonderful job. Your bargain shopping really pays off in some great discounts.

I’m sure you will be SO GLAD when this project is finished. 🙂

Your bathroom is terrific! I wish I had some decorating talent.LOL You sure have an eye for detail. I could never shop over a year and have everything match. It would be a disaster.

The bathroom looks great!! Even before reading through your post, some things stood out from the first pic. I like the curtains, different for a bathroom, look really nice. While I couldn’t see the picture above the toilet, it’s a perfect fit–maybe the shape, where it is on the wall, how it fits between everything else? I also love the look of the lamp on the countertop.

WHAT screaming deals you got on everything, Cynthia! Way to go!!

We’re thinking about eventually finishing our basement. Robert said we already have the shower insert–because he wants to change the one we have in our bathroom already, and we can recycle the current one by putting it downstairs.

We had our old kitchen baseboards JUST leaning against the wall for ah, two years. Robert finally nailed them up when I stopped PICKING them up after they’d fall over when I swept. 🙂

And I’m glad you can USE the towels, lol!

Again, it looks terrific!

SILVERWARE

This year I’m participating in the Declutter 365 project.  They started in the kitchen and since my kitchen is fairly new, I don’t have a whole lot of actual “decluttering” to do, but I do have a few organizational things I haven’t gotten to so I’m working on those for …
