“…. baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
~~Matthew 28:19

Our church held its annual baptism at the lake on September 9th. This year Emily was baptized!

I suppose one always pushes the weather envelope this time of the year up in our neck of the woods. It was SO COLD and when we first arrived it was raining….. brrrrr….

By the time they were ready to start baptizing everyone the rain stopped and it wasn’t too bad. Of course, I still had my winter coat on (LOL) while Emily was standing at the water’s edge waiting her turn.

I think there were 5 or 6 pastors baptizing everyone. I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the details so I’m not exactly sure about that #. Those who were being baptized were able to chose which pastor they wanted or they went to whoever was next.

Emily chose to have Pastor George baptize her.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketGeorge is also the pastor who dedicated Nathan a few years ago…. Here he’s praying with Emily.

As a parent, I have to say that having your children publicly proclaim their faith in Jesus is a monumental time. What a joy it is to see the fruit of YEARS of parenting, mentoring, discipling, etc.

Below is a picture with Emily and some of her friends who came to see her be baptized! We’re so thankful she has a great group of Christian young people to hang out with. Emily is in a group with some other kids who are going through the Truth Project They spend one night a month going through the study, one day doing a serving project, and one night hanging out together doing something fun! Three out of four weeks each month she has an activity with this group! And, the girls below are part of that group.

Here is what Emily wrote in her journal about her baptism day (included here with her permission!)

My Baptism

It was a cold, cold day outside on that rainy Sunday. It was 49 degrees outside and I was going to get into the Lake.
You see, I was being baptized on Sunday, September 9, 2007.

I had one foot in the Lake when I said
‘OH NOW THAT’S COLD’.
I was in water up to my hips when the pastor and I prayed. Then
he said, “Ok, plug your nose. You are going to go down now.” I plugged
my nose and splash I was in the freezing cold lake. He dunked me under the water for a few seconds and then he lifted me up.
I accepted the Lord into my life at a young age and have followed Him for as
long as I can remember. I was baptized on Sunday to publicly proclaim
my faith in the Lord Jesus. I am so happy to be baptized. I just love
following the Lord and it felt great to acknowledge him in this way even if it
was freezing cold outside.

Cynthia, what fantastic pictures of Emily baptism! You captured the wonder of the experience so perfect!

Emily, you sure are a stalwart northerner to step into that cold lake! Just super!

That is soooo awesome. I didn’t know Emily was getting baptized, we would have come! She’s one tough cookie, it was cold that day.

That is totally awesome! Congratulations Emily! The pictures were great but I had goosebumps just looking at them! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Great pictures! I gasped when I saw the one of Emily’s head going under. I could feel the cold. Brrrr…
Congratulations, Emily!

I LOVE It! My Christian was baptised on Sunday!

A parent has no greater joy than this, than to see her child walk in truth! (Lisa version)

Congratulations!! Lisa

Debbie,

Thanks! I was hoping to get some good pictures. I’m so glad I have the continuous shoot mode on this little camera.

Dorothy,
Thanks for sharing the pics with your family! It was a special day for us. I don’t consider myself a great photographer by ANY means, but I am glad that I was able to catch each stage of the baptism.

I knew we should’ve gone that day!!! I’m teary just thinking about it. Can’t wait until my kiddos are ready. Congrats Emily!

OH BROTHER!

Josh can no longer be referred to as the girls’ “little brother.”  Amanda now officially looks UP to her little brother 🙂 And, Josh is rubbing it in just a little bit (LOL).  Notice the pinched fingers!
