BIRDS, BIRDS, BIRDS

Homeschooling

We’ve watched a few movies that tie in with our Zoology studies this year. Here is the excerpt from the Netflix website regarding the most recent one we’ve watched.

Filled with extraordinary wildlife photography and beautiful birdsongs, this scenic and fascinating nature documentary will help bird lovers improve their ability to spot 218 species of birds found in the Midwest and Eastern North America. The DVD can be watched on a television or a personal computer and includes 18 quizzes and several birdsongs that viewers can use to better identify different species.

We didn’t do any of the quizzes so I can’t comment on them. The boys enjoyed watching/listening to this DVD a little bit at a time. It takes awhile to view all of the 200+ birds on this DVD (LOL). We have some co-op friends who are definitely bird enthusiasts and I think they will really enjoy this DVD. I found the mnemonics very clever and I’m glad the narrator told us the name of each type of bird. I would probably try to remember the mnemonic for some of the bird songs if they were birds from our area.

I need to do some searching and see if they have something similar for birds in our part of the country.
