This year my brother came up with an idea for a float that his YMCA spinning class (as is cycling) could do to represent the local YMCA.

He spent several days the week of Thanksgiving working on it as well as most of Thanksgiving Day.

The day of the parade, Amanda and my folks helped him as well. Nathan wen t into town with my parents. Here he is beside Amanda. There were a couple of other little ones there “helping” as well.

He had 8 reindeer riding stationery bikes and he was Ruldolph leading the way. Emily and I came just before the parade started to pick up Nathan who was tired of being in the float making business (LOL). It was SO COLD out that we decided to bring hand/feet warmers for all of the reindeer. All but one person needed them! They were able to put them down in their shoes which really helped keep their feet warm.

I’m not sure how long they were riding in the parade, but along the entire route they did a workout to the YMCA song. My brother called out the orders as they went along. Here he ism Rudolph, leading the group.

Amanda starting taking his spinning class a few months ago. I think all of the other riders were other instructors, but they needed another so she also rode as one of the reindeer.

The float sign along the edge of the trailer said: THE GIFT OF HEALTH

And the packages in the sleigh each carried a message of some sort – health, family time, etc.

It sure was a lot of work, but I think the float was a big hit! I’m glad Amanda has been able to join his spinning class now that she lives in town. Here they are before the parade started.
