In this picture I was practicing using natural light. First I had to convince Nathan that he should take a bath at exactly the right time that the light shines in this window. It’s REALLY hard to get him to not pose because he LOVES having his picture taken and he always makes goofy faces. I was hoping for a serious candid type shot and this is not bad considering, again, he normally always poses.

I like the shadows in this picture, the light on his back, and the tilt of his head, but I’m not sure about the direction he’s looking. You can tell that I was right at eye level with him so perhaps the wide margin of space on the left is ok for this type of shot? I’ve read about having the subject look into the area of the space, but again, he’s looking right at me so maybe that doesn’t apply in this type of shot.

Any suggestions or comments on this photo?

I love these shots! Your children are so photogenic. He almost looks like he has a little “pout” in this one. It’s great!

You can always crop out any extra space that detracts from his face. But I wouldn’t center it exactly, I’d leave at least some margin on two sides of the photo if possible.

I think the serious photo is really cute, but to make it more “realistic,” you might see if he’ll look somewhere besides the camera. You might also try taking a series of shots with him looking away, trying for that one moment he might let his guard down. Of course, that’s easier said than done, as soon as I pull out my camera for stuff like that, it’s hopeless, and I’ve given up!

Again, I think it’s a good picture, I would choose to highlight a lot, you might like brightening his face. B&W shots are also really neat to do with natural light, it can really accentuate the shadows and light, which is probably a goal of natural lighting . . .

(Just my thoughts, not that others would like well highlighted, and what do *I* know…I need to figure out my Photoshop. I tried to get Holly interested in playing with it but she pretty much ignored me, lol.)

DOUBLE OVEN

Cleaning the oven doors has been on my to-do list for quite some time!  Over the weekend, I searched Pinterest and other kitchen cleaning sites to try to find the best way to clean the film off from the inside of the glass. Ordinarily, this film would probably disappear during …

INDOOR BASKETBALL

These boys love to play basketball.  For quite some time, they’ve been talking about how they need another hoop so they can have a full court!  The one you can’t see is mounted above the entryway into this room directly opposite this standing hoop.   They talked about putting up …

Today Nathan went to work with Grandpa.  He packed his own lunch/snack and water bottle, grabbed his coat, and away he went.  He had quite the story to tell when he arrived back home because they evidently got the truck stuck!
