AMANDA – JULY 08 UPDATE

Way back in April, Amanda bought a new bicycle. Not just any bicycle. An expensive light weight racing type bicycle. She is now officially in training for a ride she’s doing in September. 450 miles or so if I remember right. It’s a fund raiser for a program that benefits children. Above… she’s the proud owner of a brand new bike.

My brother took her out shopping for just the right bike. He’s the one who got her interested in biking since she was taking the cycling class that he teaches before he goes to work! Here they are at the bike shop.

Besides being in training for the long bike ride she’s also been keeping pretty busy at work and house sitting off and on for a little over a month this summer.
She continues to sing on the worship team and has taken a few extra weekends here and there for others who had things come and couldn’t sing their scheduled rotation. It’s always nice when she is on the schedule with us which was the case a couple of weekends ago. She was asked to lead one of the songs in the worship set and she did an AWESOME job! I still wonder how we happened to not realize she could sing until her junior year or so. To think she had EVER KIND of musical lesson through her school years EXCEPT voice lessons (LOL)!
A few weeks ago she found out that the house she’s been living in with 5 other girls is being sold. She and one of her current roommates decided to stay together and find a condo in a different part of town which ends up being about 10 miles closer to us and only a few minutes from her office and church. They needed one more roommate and were blessed to find another girl who also attends our church who recently decided to move out on her own. I think they’ll be a great threesome! We’ll be helping them move this weekend.

With the upcoming move, Amanda decided this would be a good time to invest in a bedroom set. She decided she is tired of sleeping with the mattresses on the floor. We went shopping and she found a nice bedroom set within her budget (thanks to a bonus she received from work). She was also able to purchase a very nice pillow top plush mattress set, new bedding, and other things for her bedroom at the condo which will be much larger than the bedroom she currently has. The grandmas took her out to some garage sales last Friday to get some kitchen and other household items she’ll need. When she moved out last year she didn’t need much since the other girls had most everything.

I’ve been going to LOTS of dr appts with Amanda. She’s had dr appts almost every Friday for the last few MONTHS for one thing or another in preparation for starting Accutane this past Monday. We’re praying that she doesn’t suffer (m)any of the side effects it can cause. We understand that it will REALLY cause her skin, face, eyes, and lips to be extremely dry so we special ordered some moisturizer, found a very gentle face cleanser, as well as some special eye drops that are more like an ointment than a drop and some really heavy duty lip balm. She also has special sunscreen since she’ll be more sensitive to the sun while on it.
She sent me the SWEETEST card that still makes me tear up whenever I read it. I keep it right here on my desk along with all of the other special cards I get from the kids and dh! I always feel like Amanda gets the short end of my time since the younger ones need so much and because she’s so independent and capable that she doesn’t really need much mom help these days. It was wonderful to get this special card from her completely out of the blue (no holiday or anything!). I’ll share only a couple of lines from the card. She’s such a sweetie!

KID QUOTE: “I just wanted to say thank you for all you’ve done for me these last few months….. I just want you to know how thankful I am to have a mom so willing to take care of me even though I no longer live at home…….” ~~ Amanda ~~

I’ll finish her update with some pictures of the first long (weekend) ride that my brother and some of her other biking friends took her on earlier this spring near Yellowstone Park.

That looks like a LONG COLD ride to me! At least there is plenty of room on the edge of the road.

Brrrr… at least she is bundled up nice and warm.

I’m thrilled that she has taken a liking to Amanda and that she is training with her for the long bike ride coming up in Sept.!!Photobucket - Video and Image HostingHere is Stacie with her family. I can’t believe how her two little ones managed the ride. BRRRRR… did I mention it was COLD?Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It would be a lot of fun to do one of these rides if I was ever in good enough shape to attempt it. Maybe next year! The scenery is awesome! Imagine the things you would see if riding a bike and not zooming by in a car.

Amanda is loving her new sport! I’m glad she has good friends and family who enjoy the same activity!

We love you, honey! If you ride out here some time we’ll make dinner for you guys!

Sounds like she’s doing great!

When I got to the lower pictures I thought they were current for a minute and wondered how you had snow in July!! LOL Then I noticed they were older pics. Too funny.

I thought the same as Jodi, “Snow in July?” but then I saw that the bike was different. Um, BRRRR!

What a blessing Amanda is to you, Cindy!

And isn’t Idaho FAR?!
