I don’t know actually but you may be right about needing some sunlight. I know my snow photos always look gray on days with no sun. I look forward to reading more about what you find out.
I’ve been meaning to get a gray card sometime so I can have something to use for metering when taking snow pictures, but I haven’t gotten around to getting one so I had to use the old-fashioned trial & error method…..
This one is way too dark….

This one was only slightly better….

Lacking patience to gradually work my way up to the right exposue, I went too far to the other end of the exposure spectrum and ended up with something equally as bad as the first two, but much lighter (LOL)….
Then this is the best I could come up with. It’s definitely more white, but not REALLY white like I’d prefer, but at least the exposure seems pretty close….
I’m assuming that if I had taken more time to work at this yesterday I may have gotten some better shots, but maybe not without any sun? Does anyone know?
I’ve also read that you can meter against a blue sky, but there wasn’t any sky to be seen yesterday. Today, there is blue sky so I tried again and ended up with the following picture.
The snow is definitely more white so maybe it’s impossible to get a nice white looking snow photo without any sonlight? Does anyone know?
