BLOCK BOOKS

Reviews

I ran across the “block” books by Christopher Franceschelli three years ago when Charlie was just a baby. I made a note of them in my book file so I would remember to buy one when he was old enough for his first board book.I bought the Alpha Block book first. It is absolutely adorable! I am particularly drawn to the unique way these books present numbers and letters which are as cut outs on the edge of the pages. Here is an example from the alphabet book.

Someone else bought the Counta Block book for the kids and it is equally as enjoyable.

Here are some samples of the pages from this book.

This book has a page for each number individually up through number ten. After ten, it counts the numbers to the next ten on one page.

After that, there are pages for 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100. Here’s another sample.

The last page ends with 100 which is a double page!

If you’re looking for a very fun and unique alphabet or counting board book, I highly recommend these. The illustrations by Peskimo are outstanding. There are more block books in the series. I will review more of them at a later date. Charlie has the Builda Block book which is all about construction. There is also a City Block and a Dino block which I purchase for Christmas presents.

MEET YOU IN HELL

Meet You in Hell by Les Standiford has been on my want-to-read-someday book list since 2007 when I read his book Last Train to Paradise about the railroad to Key West.  This seemed like a good year to read it since we are currently studying modern times (TOG Year 4 …
