Sue and Lou are the couple we have to thank for introducing us to the Youth For Understanding student foreign exchange program. They had had an exchange student the year before us and with them living across from Tim’s folks we had the opportunity to meet the student several times. In the summer of 2002, we were at Tim’s parents house and they were there talking about the student they would be getting that fall. They were so excited about it and had such wonderful things to say about their previous experiences that we decided we would like to give it a try.When I was growing up, our family had two exchange students with one experience being ok and the other not. So, I was a little leery, but the program representatives assured us we could cancel if the student wasn’t a good fit for our family so we decided to go for it. They came out and did our home inspection/interview, brought us some profiles to look at, and the next thing we knew Michaela was here for a year and now she’s back. The picture above is from last week when they took her out to lunch.
