LOU & SUE

PhotobucketSue and Lou are the couple we have to thank for introducing us to the Youth For Understanding student foreign exchange program. They had had an exchange student the year before us and with them living across from Tim’s folks we had the opportunity to meet the student several times. In the summer of 2002, we were at Tim’s parents house and they were there talking about the student they would be getting that fall. They were so excited about it and had such wonderful things to say about their previous experiences that we decided we would like to give it a try. When I was growing up, our family had two exchange students with one experience being ok and the other not. So, I was a little leery, but the program representatives assured us we could cancel if the student wasn’t a good fit for our family so we decided to go for it. They came out and did our home inspection/interview, brought us some profiles to look at, and the next thing we knew Michaela was here for a year and now she’s back. The picture above is from last week when they took her out to lunch. They’ll be back sometime this weekend and I’m sure they’ll make plans to see her again before we all leave on the 24th.Many thanks to Sue & Lou for introducing us to this wonderful program.

This must be such a wonderful experience for all of you. I've had one good friend (in high school) whose family did this, one boy was a great experience, his sister was so-so, and another person was not a good match at all. But there was a long friendship afterwards between the families, in the first two instances.

What a great experience. I am so glad it has been positive for you. We tried having a foreign exchange student and it was not a good experience for us. I was so sad. Maybe when the kids are older we will try again. We'll see. It always tugs at my heart when I see positive stories like yours.

I’m typically not one who listens to country music very often, but for some reason I’ve been hearing this song almost everywhere I turn this year and it reminds me so much of our dear friends and our annual (we’ve only had two so far, but who’s counting!) camping trip …

On 6-18-2010, my friend, Rhonda, and I went for our annual home decor shopping trip to one of the local stores which has a spring sale every June.  Last year when we were shopping at this store, I spotted the above vase which I knew would fit this corner perfectly!  However, I …
