PARIS IN SEPTEMBER

Vacations - 2009

PhotobucketBefore we left on our fall trip to Europe, I searched many websites to see what we might expect in regard to the weather so we would know how to pack. I figured fall should be a good time to visit Europe with their vacations winding down and the temperatures cooling off. I was glad to have my thoughts confirmed on the About.com website.

“September is a simply divine month to visit France. The tourist season is winding down, but you still get most of the positive aspects of summertime like warm weather and extended hours at attractions. The prices at hotels and for airfare start to dip a little. The evenings, especially in the north, begin to have that cool, crisp touch to the air. There are numerous events, the highlight of which is the ferias, or bullfighting festivals, of the South of France. Anyone who loves Paris in the springtime would have to adore it as fall starts to tinge the tips of the French leaves.

I also found information which stated the average high/low temperatures in Paris being 70 degrees F and 55 degrees F with an average of 2.1 inches.

The girls and I didn’t want the hassle of toting around an umbrella everywhere we went so we knew we would need to take raincoats. We survived a NYC downpour one Nov without a raincoat OR an umbrella although we were completely sopping wet by the time we arrived at our destination. We decided we could survive Europe without an umbrella, but not without a raincoat!

Amanda already owned a nice raincoat, but Emily and I did not. By “nice” I simply mean a sport type raincoat which repels moisture without leaving you sweating and sticky. Em and I shopped around and spotted some we liked earlier this spring, but not wanting to pay full price we had to keep an eye on them all summer until they went on clearance. Fortunately, we caught them right as they went on sale so we were able to find the colors we like in the sizes we wear. YEA! Those who have known me for any length of time will already know that I don’t pay full price for anything and if I find something on sale I usually buy more than one. Anyone care to guess whether or not I bought an extra raincoat? (LOL).

Fortunately, the weather has been absolutely BEAUTIFUL here. It has been in the mid to high 70s the whole time we have been in Paris so we didn’t really need our raincoats, but we took them with us each day just in case. We did wear them the day we were on the double decker bus because it was a little cool up on top when the bus was moving. Someone along the way told us Sept in Paris has been nicer than August. The above info from about.com sure proved true regarding the number of tourists and the prices. We’ve not had to wait long in line for anything and we’ve found several things discounted as “off season.”

Did you notice Michaela’s raincoat in the above pictures? She also wanted to purchase either a raincoat or a winter coat and ended up with the same type of raincoat that Em and I purchased.

MUSEE RODIN

One of the many things on my Paris “hope to see” list was the Musee Rodin.  Because we had a mile-long list of things to see today and because I was the only one with this on their must-see list, we opted to make this a very quick stop (as in probably only …

BIKING THROUGH PARIS

If I don’t already sound like a broken record when I say I researched all of the xyz options for abc before we booked our trip (or chose this crockpot or picked that curriculum, etc), just stick around awhile and I’m sure you’ll eventually come to that conclusion (LOL) since …

A.M. VISIT TO EIFFEL TOWER

I’m sure everyone would have preferred to sleep in a little longer today (9/26), but again, trying to avoid jet lag I scheduled us to be up and out of the hotel by 7:00 a.m. I actually wanted to leave at 6:30 but Michaela thought that was way too early …
