Today Nathan fell from a 4′ something at co-op which he had climbed up on to make himself taller so he could “dunk the basketball.”  The kids who saw the incident reported he tried to hold on with one hand before falling to the cement floor landing on his face.  They said he laid there for a little bit (they thought maybe 30 seconds but that seems pretty long to me) whimpering before starting to cry and getting up to come find me.
As soon as I saw him coming up the stairs I knew he wasn’t “right.”  Even his cry didn’t sound quite normal.  He was holding the side of his head and crying that he was bleeding, but there wasn’t any blood.  His eyes looked funny.  Other things he was saying didn’t make sense.  He was pulling his hair, etc.  I called our ER Dr friend who said he was on his way to the hospital and would meet us there.
They took Nathan right back and decided he needed 1/2 dozen or so x-rays to make sure there wasn’t a skull fracture which thankfully, there wasn’t. Otherwise, they may have taken him for a CAT scan.  They gave him some pain meds and anti-nausea meds afterwhich they said it was ok for him to take a nap in the ER where they could monitor him while he was sleeping and see how he handled waking up.
After he woke up, he still wasn’t quite himself so we waited awhile longer.  They brought him some crackers and sprite which he REALLY enjoyed.  He had been asking for a drink ever since he fell, but they wanted to wait a little bit before giving him much to drink.  After he finally started to perk up a bit they discharged him.  We have a list of things to watch for and will be keeping him at home with a close eye on him throughout the night and the next few days.  If anything changes for the worse, we’ll take him back in ASAP and we will check in with the doctor over the next few days.  Hopefully, Nathan will be good to fly by Friday!

Oh bless his heart! It must have scared you to death! So thankful that there were no fractures…I will pray for a speedy return to normal for your little guy. Please keep us posted!

LITTLE BITES OF HAPPINESS

Nathan’s friend, Noah, came over to hang out today and enjoy one last day of Christmas break before school resumes for both of them tomorrow. On the way home from picking him up at “the bridge,” I asked if the boys wanted some oatmeal for breakfast, but no. They wanted …

COON “HUNTIN”

Early this morning our dog went crazy with barking and howling.  After the sun rose, we found out what all the commotion had been about as he pointed us toward a coon he had treed during the night! Mid morning the boys decided they needed to take care of the …

EARLY MORNING VIEW

I love that the days are getting longer!   There was a beautiful view of the moon early this morning which reminded me of this song by Steven Curtis Chapman.   …”Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee…   Holy. Holy, holy…”
