TIMES SQUARE

Even though we had a long day of flying, we were all excited to go check out Times Square.   The older kids all remembered being there the last time, but Nathan didn’t.  I think he was only 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 the last time we came. And, of course, Tim has never been here so we were excited to show him all of the sights!

First stop is the New Year’s Even ball drop area.  I had read that they no longer allow driving in Times Square since the last time we were there.  There are a few lanes of driving, but nothing like what we drove through the last time we came when I was driving a 15 pass van right into the heart of Times Square.  It was nice that they opened up several traffic lanes for additional pedestrian areas.

Tater is so excited to have Amanda be part of our family again.  He likes to stay very close to her!  He’s a very huggy / cuddly little guy (LOL) who doesn’t really understand personal space quite yet..

NUTS FOR NUTS!  One of our most favorite vendor booths in NYC!  We stopped several times for these warm, honey roasted nuts.  If you’re in NYC.  You MUST give them a try.

We found this heart shaped ICE SCULPTURE in the heat of Times Square which was brought in for Valentine’s Day.   We stopped for a photo op.  If you click on the link, you’ll see how it was created and how much it’s changed since it was finished.  If you do look at the link, take note of the most recent photos with all the snow around the ice sculpture.  No snow at all while we were there, but they were dumped on just a couple days after we left.

I have to keep pinching myself to be sure Tim is really here with us in Times Square! He’s a good sport to go along with us this time despite all of our big city sight seeing plans!

What a great trip full of memories! It looks like you were able to stay ahead of the snow for most of your trip? That heart is pretty amazing!

I wish I was brave enough to do NYC by myself! 🙂 (Well, I mean without someone who knows the area really well – not totally by myself – I'd like to take my family of course!)

Debbie,

Overall, yes we're glad we came. Other than the two rainy days in Boston, the rest of the time we've stayed ahead of the bad weather. If truth be said, we would have all preferred somewhere warm though, but then they couldn't have done both the concert and the basketball game… so this is the way it was…

Kristine,

I'm glad to have had a few minutes as well to blog about this trip because I hope to continue blogging about Europe when I get back home. I've taken 1/2 the pictures I would have normally taken… just because I didn't want to weed through so many….. so it's been easier t do on the go although I'm already a week behind (LOL).

Lisa,

Yep. Staying ahead of the weather. And, now that we're done in the Williamsburg area it's fairly decent. We didn't even have to wear our coats today. YEA!

Linda,

You're adventuresome, aren't you? I've seen blog posts about other trips you've taken. I was scared the first time I went to NYC as well and that was just with the girls and they were both smallish then.. probably 8 and 5 or something like that. Then, the next time I went I had all 4 kids and Nathan was only 2 or so…. That one was a crazy trip since we drove into Times Square in a big old 15 pass van…. I probably wouldn't do that again (LOL)!

Well, I guess I am adventuresome in some ways. I took 4 kids on an 18-day trip to the Grand Canyon pretty much by myself. But for some reason NYC scares me!

Linda,

I can understand. I was pretty scared the first time as well, but now I've been there 3x and it isn't bad at all. If you ever decide to go I can give you some pointers! For me, the first part is chosing the right place to stay.. somewhere safe and within a short walk to the subway and/or double decker tour busses which I would highly recommend for your first trip!

Dorothy,

They're also sold in Boston although in Boston we only lfound them on one street corner. We never did see any in London. We must have been in the wrong area.

ST. PAUL’S CHAPEL

St. Paul’s Chapel at 209 Broadway is NYC’s oldest public building and the only colonial-era church which has remained in continuous use since it opened in 1766. In days long gone, St. Paul’s is where George Washington worshipped after his Presidential inauguration on April 30, 1789 and this is the chapel where he regularly attended services during the …

THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING

What is a trip to NYC without a view from it’s tallest building?  The 102-story Empire State Building was the largest building in NYC for more than forty years until the World Trade Center’s north tower claimed that honor upon its completion in 1972.  After the towers’ destruction in 2001, the Empire State …
