FAMILY NIGHT

FAMILY NIGHT:

I’m guessing most families don’t pick a week night to have their “family night” activities. We do. Our “family night” this year is going to have to be Tuesday night because it’s the only night that we are all able to commit to being home. We are all home on Monday nights, too, but 3/4 of us are TOO TIRED to do much of anything after a full day in town at co-op. I’ll leave that info for another another post. And, WOW, how time flies. Tomorros is Tues again already and here I haven’t even posted pictures or anything from our LAST week’s family night. I thought I was doing so good at keeping up this blog! Maybe I take too many pictures (LOL)! I did lose my camera for 3 days this week, but I just got it back tonight and now I have a bunch of pictures from co-op that I will work on uploading tomorrow.

Here are pictures from last Tuesday night’s “family night.” First, we started out early in the afternoon making home made pizza thanks to a recipe from a friend of ours. Here is a picture of our pan pizza and the pan that was rescued from the rescue mission box just in time! This one was Hawaiian. I think I’ll get more creative as time goes on and try the BBQ hawaiian that I’ve tasted at one of our favorite gourmet pizza restaurants in town.

The evening started out with Amanda playing the guitar and Tim reading the newspaper.

Nathan and I were resting.

Emily was playing with the cars and houses that the kids like to set up in the library. They build entire towns complete with tape all over the floor marking their roads. The houses are from my collection of Christmas villages that Herberger’s used to sell every year. I haven’t seen them for quite awhile though. We have DOZENS of them and the kids really enjoy playing with them all year round.

Josh was playing on the computer.

Then Amanda asked Tim to get his bass out and played along with Amanda for awhile.

Nathan woke up and decided to join them.

If you look closely at the picture above you’ll see all of the markings on the bookcase. These are the kids height recordings. In the next picture you’ll see that Em is quite excited to have moved to the TOP of the height list!

You might remember from my previous post that Amanda is taking lots of music lessons this year. Here Tim is teaching her a few more things on the bass and a little ways down you’ll see him rolling his eyes at how quickly she catches on!

Mmmm the pizza looks great! I don’t suppose it matters what night you have your family night on it’s still a special family time and having it on a different day than is typical makes it special for your family.

I think it’s such a cute idea to mark the kids heights on the bookshelves!

Jodi,

I wouldn’t have let the kids write on the bookcases except I never did get around to painting them. We had plans of making a fake top for them that would go all the way to the ceiling and THEN I was going to paint the sides of them. I repainted all the shelves and insides though (LOL)! It’s been 3 years and now I don’t think I WOULD want to paint over them since we have all the markings on the one. It just sort of happened. They wanted a spot to do this and I would never dream of letting them write on a wall. I actually think this would be a good idea for those who move a lot to because you would almost always take a bookcase with you!

The pizza looks good. I’m going to try “diced ham” for the boys’ hawaiin this week and sneak in turkey ham. We’ll see. {G}

I recognize those Christmas villages. Do you still set them and the train set up each year?

It sounds like you had a nice, relaxing family night. I miss cold winter nights….

DeEtta,
Yes. We still set up the little houses with our train set at Christmas time. We used to set it up to run under the tree;, but now we have a bay window in the library and we set it up there.

SEQUENCE

Nathan, Tim, and I played a lively game of Sequence this evening.  I should have won the first round, but SOMEONE had to open up their mouth and let on to someone else my strategy which was to win 2 sequences with one last chip!  That play fell through and …

LITTLE BITES OF HAPPINESS

Nathan’s friend, Noah, came over to hang out today and enjoy one last day of Christmas break before school resumes for both of them tomorrow. On the way home from picking him up at “the bridge,” I asked if the boys wanted some oatmeal for breakfast, but no. They wanted …

BETH’S EASY CHERRY COBBLER

In honor of my sister-in-law, today on the one month anniversary of her heavenly home-going, I’d like to post a recipe that is our family’s MOST requested dessert!  In fact, it is SO POPULAR here that both of our sons have even made it on occasion when they were hungry …
